The only thing I’d argue against your take is that perhaps no one in the league wanted that contract either. He had 3-4 good games to start the year but I’d imagine the NFL saw the mirage too.

Was there an offer on the table? (Not being sarcastic). If there was I didn’t see it.

The Jets have the worst linebacking core in football, to go with the worst TE and safety group. They'll need him next year.

Not publicly. But I follow the league super closely and Mosley screams Gettleman type, and fits the scheme really well. Considering how Gettleman is on the hot seat, I know Gettleman would have given up a late round pick for him, I just know it. Especially because Mosley would have only been like a $4 million cap hit for the team who acquired him this year.

Worst linebacking group this team has had in a really long time.

They're awful. It's hard for me to hate on the coaching staff as some do because they literally have the worst safety and linebacker room in the NFL and I doubt it's close.

And Moseley is the best player in the group by a long way. How bad would it be without him. Its just another hole to fill with a rookie or average guy if you move him. I understand the desire to have more rebuild ammo but at some point you've got to keep some vet guys even if they aren't the future.

$16 million that could be used for good players is what I'm focused on. I don't care if you get a conditional 7th in return

I understand that. Just not sure that you are going to get anyone significantly better than Moseley for that money. Or combination of players.

Fatukasi has been subpar. Our run defense is atrocious. The last thing we need to do is extend another defensive lineman who doesn’t deserve it.

I don’t disagree on moving Mosley though.

Fatukasi would never be able to cover RBs coming out the backfield.

That money could've been used on OL.

The Jets have a real shot at the record for most points allowed.

They may well do it in 16 games also.

The record is 533 pts allowed by the Colts in 1981. The Jets are currently on pace to allow 526 pts thru 16 games. They're on pace to allow 558 pts overall - which would be the new record for defensive futility, albeit in 17 games not 16.

The point of all this is that you can't build anything through free agency. Even if you overpay to get the best interior LB in the NFL to sign you will still have to build everything else around him because he's not the reason he looked so good at his last place. His teammates and the system he played in are why he looked so good.

You paid for an illusion. The illusion that one player can make a difference on a bad team. The illusion that stardom is an individual thing in the NFL. Stardom is something that happens when a lot of good players come together and the few best among them turn into stars.

Fair enough, but yeah you could use it on Quinnen, or Jack Conklin is a free agent again this offseason.

Edit: Actually Conklin isn't a Free Agent, not sure why I thought he was. I thought he signed a 2 year deal for some reason.

Meh, there’s not enough good players available to spend our cap space on now.
