Happy Veteran's Day to all your veterans! Thank you for your service. Below is a picture of my father. He served in the Army Air Corps during WW II in Africa, India, Burma and China.

    Thanks to the Veterans.
I always feel weird when people thank me . I was 93-97 and was pretty much peace in between the gulf wars. I never know what to say, honestly my liver is the real hero.
My grandfather however, Purple Heart ww2, was on the gunner on the b-17 Flying Fortress that was shot down and held in Russia while they tried to reverse engineer it. There’s a documentary about it and the very last scene is them zooming in on a photo of the crew that ends on my grandfathers face before going to black. I never knew about it till he passed, he never said a word about his military time.
Edit. It was the b-29 super fortress.

You have nothing to feel weird about. You still served our country. A war could have happened and you could have had to go. Because of you and others like you, people slept easier knowing that our army was ready and on standby if needed. I salute you.

My father's first cousin was the top gunner on a B17 that was shot down during WWII. They crash landed in Poland and was held prisoner by Russian forces until they could verify their identities. It then took him months to make his way back home to the US. He wrote a book about his experience, from when he grew up in Brooklyn and was drafted at 18 until he came home. He flew close to 30 missions. The book is called The Lady from Hell.

Do you know if that documentary is available through any of the streaming services? I would love to watch that.
