This is the correct take. Do not rush a 22 year old kid back from a knee injury in his rookie season. The Jets do however, need to get him out there right away when his knee is 100%. Wilson will now be seeing 3 weeks worth of this offense operating effectively, it's time to see him run it whenever he is healthy.
You are a pretty harsh critic of Wilson, so I'll take that with a grain of salt. I don't think his ball placement has been bad all year. I've seen him make some really incredible throws (OT toss to Cole comes to mind.) It definitely has room for improvement for sure, but he's a rookie. I make it a point to try and watch TL, Jones and Fields whenever I can. I've seen them all struggle with ball placement. These guys are rookies. Fields almost got one of his receivers decapitated on Monday night. It happens. I know you say comp% is not as important, but most of the top QB's are over 65%.
Makes no sense. Completion percentage is simply a metric used to quantify the concepts of accuracy and placement. Accuracy & placement are the concepts. You can argue there are better metrics but I don't see how you can argue the concept is better than the metric used to define it
Call it what you want. Bryce Petty had a really high CMP% in college. However, anyone with any football acumen who watched him could see he was widly inaccurate. Conversely, Josh Allen’s CMP% at Wyoming was pure trash. However, if you watched him play, you would have seen that it wasn’t a true reflection of his accuracy. Continue to compare CMP%, I’ll stick with what my eyes tell me. They haven’t failed me yet.
Wilson needs to improve on his accuracy and decision making. White has been a breath of fresh air to be honest. That being said Wilson needs to sit the rest of the year to learn the system and White should be starting until next year. If White goes HAM we know who our QB is.
It would be like someone looking at a baseball pitcher. "He throws it really hard"... "well the radar gun says its only 80MPH" "Call it what you want but anyone with baseball acumen can see he throws it hard. I'll stick to what my eyes tell me, they havent failed me yet"
I want to see White exhibit some touch and n the ball. Let me see him drop a ball in over a defender. I'd also like to see him play a game without getting hurt.
Maybe I should change my handle so I can post w/o having to read some of you bitch and moan about labels others have place upon me like some jealous high school girls.
the shitposting in this thread...smh root for who you want. Let others do the same. Let it play out. Hope for the best. Lighten the fuck up.
I haven’t been a harsh of Zach at all. Months after the draft, you just continue to struggle with the concept of me preferring Fields not meaning I hate Zach. I’ve watched every preseason and regular season snap of only Zach and Fields. So I can only speak about them. Zach’s pocket awareness, pocket mobility and command of the offense has been exceptional. He’s advanced in those areas, far better than Fields and surpassed my expectations. I expected the bad decision making at least early because I saw that even on his highlight plays at BYU. So that’s par for the course. What has been not just bad but unexpected, has been the accuracy and ball placement. As a prospect I thought he was accurate with less than desirable ball placement. So far his accuracy has been inconsistent, and his ball placement has not been very good IMO. If that’s too “harsh”, sorry.
I said we should start Wilson, if he's healthy, for most of the reasons you mentioned. However, that doesn't necessarily mean he is the future. That is something he needs to earn. Being a #2 (or even a #1) pick doesn't guarantee success. Recent history shows that a good number of top QB picks have fallen by the wayside. The surer thing is not necessarily the most talented nor the guy who watches the most film. The surer thing is the QB who delivers victories, and victories are what separates HC's from a job and the unemployment line.
I agree that just because Wilson was the #2 pick doesn't mean he will be a success and the future. I believe, however, that if they don't jerk him around by making him sit behind White, give him the playing time to learn and develop, he will succeed and prove to be the future. With what they have invested in him, they should give him every chance to succeed, not dick around with a JAG QB they signed in FA or claimed off waivers. In the long run, yes victories are what determines whether a QB is a sure thing and are what keeps a HC employed. In the short run, however, rookie QBs take time to develop and learn, and one needs to be patient..
Don't forget that if you add in all the dropped passes, Wilson's completion percentage would be north of 60%.
Victories aside, a lot of the other skill players not named Corey Davis are seemingly flourishing in Wilson’s absence. Maybe the FO and CS is feel White gives them a better chance to evaluate more players on offense?
I agree with you that prior to the draft, he was more critical of Wilson, but since the draft, I think he has been very fair. He has been complimentary of Zach on a number of things. He's rooting for Wilson to succeed, so please give him some slack.
I still believe(hope) Wilson is the future franchise QB. I don’t think though that starting the better QB right now which in turns helps the development of the entire offense is jerking Zach around. He can still develop by practice and mental reps and watching a QB run the offense the way it should be run. Mike White was so good in his one start that I want to see if he can sustain that kind of success and potentially improve. If he can stay healthy and continue to play at that level or higher than he should continue to start. Mike White becoming a valuable piece does nothing but help the Jets.
Yes, but are they flourishing because they now feel comfortable and know the offense better, because LaFleur has pulled his head out of his ass and is doing a better job of game planning and play calling, or was Zach somehow holding them back? I'm biased, but if anything I say that they were holding Zach back earlier. We all know the RBs, TEs, and OL were bad early and the WRs were dropping a ton of passes. If Zach wasn't the issue, then why would the FO and CS think that White gives them a better chance to evaluate more players on offense?
