I was listening to Rich Eisen rant about the football Gods hating the Jets on YouTube and thought it was funny.
"Football Gods" LMAO. Is that what we have been reduced to? Forget the football gods, how's about we learn how to stop the run and / or adjust to what our opponent is doing defensively instead of whining about Ghosts, Gods and goblins?
We've angered the football gods. They gave us the 2nd pick to trade for a major haul to properly rebuild our team and instead we went and spent it all on some magic beans. The football gods help those who help themselves.
Yeah no kidding. If Zach doesn't pan out its going to take more than divine intervention on the part of football gods to dig us out of the cess pit. Love Mr. Eisen btw.
Jones is a pretender. Kraft, Rooney and the collective authority of the Packers Executive Board are the real deal.
Jones has given more power to his son and other football people in his FO. He was talked out of taking Manziel. He might not be the most likeable owner, but he's less hands on than the reputation he has would suggest.
Troy Aikman had some rather insightful things to say during the Thursday broadcast. At one point it was displayed on the screen the people that had the largest impact on him as a young man and as a football player. Then later on, it was almost like he was comparing his life experiences to what Joe Douglas is building in NY. When he mentioned in order to build a team that has confidence you have to have players that can play. In so many words, I thought he was referring to talent. He then went on to mention that he thought Joe Douglas was bringing in players that can play. Now honestly, as bad as it looked the other night I've always agreed with Aikmans sentiment. I do believe JD is on the right track to turning this organization around. I don't know when exactly it will happen but I think the Mike White drive in the 1st quarter was a glimpse of the future? Extreme athleticism exploiting a somewhat decent defense? Elijah Moore is sneaky fast and Mike White did what he's always known and that was to go through his progressions. In those progressions he found Moore wide open. That, for me, is what I'm thinking we're going to start seeing a lot more of. Zach Wilson IMO, if he's a smart kid (and I think he is), is LEARNING from his time not starting. This little injury stint I believe is going to become an invaluable learning experience for Zach. I further believe there's no doubt on the coaching staffs mind, if Zach is healthy he will be the starter.
I really don't think JD is going to pull off a turnaround for the Jets. The way to do that is to draft a lot of people and when you get to the point that you are competitive you sign a few free agents to fill the holes you couldn't fill in the draft. Instead he's done what every recent GM before him did and signed the free agents before the team was ready to go. That makes the FA's 30 when you are ready to go and they are falling away at that point. The only thing vet FA's are guaranteed to do is take away playing time from the 22-24 year olds that should be your core in 3 years. You're probably gonna say, well 22-24 year olds don't perform as well as vet FA's right now. The Jets are now 4-20 in their last 24 games. They easily could have done that with an all-kid roster that was going to be a powerhouse in a few seasons.
I disagree completely. The vets that are playing right now are almost exclusively short term rentals. There was only 3 players IMO that are in JD's long term plans. Carl Lawson, Corey Davis, and CJ Mosley are the guys JD plans on retaining. JD is 100% fully focused on using the draft to build this team. He wants to build a steady stream of incoming talented players each and every year that ultimately makes the Jets a team that almost never uses free agency.....
