Check out my Mike White Film Breakdown before TNF!! Share with all of your Jets friends, please and thanks!
Thanks for sharing! I'm really hoping Mike comes out and lights it up tonight on national TV. As much as I'm a die hard Jet fan, this kid has truly taken the LONG road to get where he has and has had to take serious lumps. For him to come out and really light it up tonight would undoubtedly change the trajectory of him and his family's life. Even if it resulted in him being a well paid backup like a Schaub or Chase Daniel for many years-- Rooting for you kid! Go kick some ass
The Colts Safeties are beat up, I just don’t know if White has the skills to strike deep on them. The Colts backers are a lot better than the Bengals where
Very well done, Max! Question for you... Do you think Zach Wilson is capable of executing this type of offensive game plan? Is yes, why haven't they tried it so far?
People learn differently, we also have to remember that even tho Mike White was in his first game he has been around the game and studying for much longer than a first year rookie coming from BYU. Wilson will eventually get it just gonna take some time I think. If they both get it and White keeps performing like this thats a good problem to have at the QB spot!
I'm rewatching the game to kill time before tonight's game with the colts. It was schemed so well. In the past it's been run, run and third and long. Why haven't they been doing this all year?
Such a simple question with so many parts to the answer lol. To keep it simple, based on what I’ve seen from him so far, not yet. But that doesn’t worry me, he has never had to play that way before, and he has a clear tendency to try for the aggressive play. As young as he is, he hasn’t learned the on-field patience required to dink and dunk for a whole game yet. He can clearly do stuff Mike White can never even dream of attempting though.
1. Execution on the OL/TE blocking was better 2. The Bengals LB’s struggled 3. Mike White didn’t try and force the big play 4. Michael Carter is developing. He has made clear strides 5. Almost no drops, which were an issue through the year None of those things have anything to do with the scheme, but they were all better on Sunday. The team is just getting more experience in the new scheme.
Nice video Max. For whatever my thoughts are worth I think Zach Wilson is "capable" of doing anything Mike White does plus a bunch extra. I think what we've seen so far is simply the extra months and years that Mike White has had to get used to the NFL speed and systems. In the limited time we've gotten to see him he seems to have a pretty good knack for both knowing the plan/goal of the plays and then managing to pick out the best place to go to. As seen in Max's video even when he makes a relatively poor throw or it doesn't work out he was heading in the right direction... just didn't get it there. I think at this moment in time White simply has a better handle on the system than Wilson does. I also wouldn't be surprised if taking a little bit of a break here doesn't ultimately end up being the best thing possible for Wilson. It sure seemed to help Darnold in his rookie year. I also think there is a chance that the Jets game plan this past Sunday was just especially compatible with exploiting the Bengals on that given day so that instead of a workman like 250-1-1 you ended up with a more magical 405-3-2
It all came together, the Bengals didn’t respect White’s command of the offense, their LB’s couldn’t close quickly enough, they play a lot of cover 4, and Michael Carter was on fire. The game definitely had a better offensive flow with LaFleur up in the box too. It’s very clear watching the tape so many times for the video. But improved execution was a huge part of it all.
I'll be curious to see if the 7 step drop issues start to get tidied up as he gets more practice reps as a starter. The Bills and Dolphins games will probably be better indicators than tonight, as you mentioned.
Going back over some of the throws, there's definately a few where mims in particular is open or coming open on a deeper route.
Before getting knocked out of the game tonight, White was 7-11 for 111 yards and a TD in the first quarter and seemed on his way to another good game.
