I saw this on Twitter and thought you guys would find it interesting. It appears John Beck was on the Jet sideline during the Cincy game. It's the guy talking to White as they are walking. IF this is the case--it's an absolute homerun of a hire. Very respected and has great credentials. Also a system fit form his back ground.
Isn't he Zach's personal QB coach he's been working with for a couple of years? If this is true, it's a smart hire.
He was. Beck runs a QB training program for new and current QBs. In interviews he said he was pretty happy with what he was doing, but would consider making a move. Maybe they are running a pilot and seeing how it goes with him on staff full time?
Zach Wilson was up in the box as well on Sunday. He was up there with Lafleur. This team is really making adjustments and moves right now that I love. Moving Lafleur up. Potentially hiring Beck. Bringing the QB coaches down to the field. Allowing Wilson to see the field from the box with Lafleur. Etc.
Wow that would be shocking to see Beck leave. He represents and coaches close to half the starting QBs in the league. Joining a team would have to be a big paycut to work a lot more hours. Big move by the Jets trying to fill the holes left by Gregg Knapp. Saleh has said that Wilson’s number one focus everyday during practice is his footwork with progression 2nd. Beck would certainly help with his mechanics especially after the work he did with Zach prior to his 3rd year at BYU.
Looks like the beat is confirming this today. Smart move by the organization IMO. Keeps LaFleur in the booth going forward but also gives someone for Zach to "feel comfortable" with while on the sideline.
What he needs to do is give Flacco a heart. I have it all figured out. See, Zach is clearly Dorothy, and Flacco is in need of a heart so that makes him the tin man. I'm still trying to figure out which of White and Josh Jones are the cowardly lion and the scarecrow without making any overt racial stereotypes.
Might wanna get Mike White's personal trainer on the sidelines in Jets garb....Beck can move to the booth with Zach and Lefluer
That definitely made me chuckle. Which would be okay if I hadn't been reading it in a zoom meeting...
Thanks for sharing this! This is the kind of creative thinking and coaching that I was expecting from Saleh and LaFleur, not rigid, inflexible, square peg into round hole kind of thinking. Hopefully, this signals an awakening on their part, and is only the beginning of great things for the offense and the Jets!!!
