Zach Wilson - 6 games 104 / 181 for 1168, 4 TDs / 9 INTs - rating 63.5 Mike White - 2 games 57 / 77 for 607, 4 TDs / 4 INTs - rating 92.3 The question is, if White comes out and lays an egg on Thursday and we lose, should it automatically be Zach when healthy - or Zach has to be the future? Or do we give White more chances to win the job? Would you welcome a QB competition for the starting job, or should this already be settled?
I think we need to see White lead the team and do this on a regular basis - at least another 2-3 games before the Jets go in that direction. Zach has a lot of talent but may simply not be ready yet. If a “competition” lights a fire under Zach then so be it. I think in reality White probably comes back to earth a little but hopefully becomes a very dependable back up for the Jets for years to come.
I just want a good QB, I couldn't give a fuck who it is as long as they are at least at a minimum competent.
With Zach out for a few more games, this isn't an issue now. If White continues to play like he did yesterday, or close to it, he should keep the job. I thought redshirting Zach for at least part of this season wasn't the worst thing during the offseason, so maybe that does happen. If White is playing well and Zach is ready to return, we have a nice problem on our hands.
Shouldnt be any different from any other position. If one TE came in and performed well while the starting TE was hurt then that TE would keep his job, QB shouldnt be any different but it always is
Welcome it? I encourage it. I hate the GM line of thinking that you can’t have any competition for a young QB. It should be the opposite, like it is for every other position.
By the time Zach's healthy, if White has regressed to, say, a Darnold level (which is still better than Zach played), Zach should get the job back because of his youth and potential. But if White is playing like a franchise QB, it should remain White's job.
Its simple everyone..that injury Wilson received opened the Door to what should have happened 4 games into this Season Tell the Kid to ride the Bench , and change QBs. Even to one that has never started a game. Why risk ZW injured and he and White can compare notes? Plus he should have been benched anyway after underthrowing or overthrowing receivers ... Instead, Wilson kept being thrown out there and get a smack down no call dirty play from Patriots Now Mike W has proved he can winning game. throw for 400 yards and galvanize the team...so he's earned and the QB position Of course the CS will probably do the opposite foregoing more short term wins, team chemistry with White and have fans happy to let Wilson, our BIG investment continue to get his feet wet ..or even win game or two? Who knows ? In a way you have to find out what you have with ZW before you run with White
I don't care what his name is, if he can win a lot of football games playing QB at a high level, then that's the guy I want.
Agreed this falls in the cross that bridge when we get to it category for me. It’s not something I want to worry about or contemplate until I have to. Zach’s hurt, Mike’s healthy. So the decision is made for us.
It doesn't matter what a player cost in cash or draft capital to get here, the best guy at the job gets it until someone better comes along.
The one guy who said No is a closet Patriots fan. He shudders to imagine his team creating Tom Brady type situation for the Jets.
What is funny is that during the Patriot blowout, my first impression was the Jet's offense was doing better with White than Wilson. When you realize White came in the game with very little prep and was still better than Wilson, just goes to show he grasps the offense better than Wilson. Now with a week's prep against the Bengals, anyone can clearly see that White is simply a better fit at this time. I see no rush in bringing Wilson back. Make Wilson really earn the starting job.
