Oh.. it was VERY different today. Completely different flow to the game. LeFleur had a different and far wider view of what the Defense was giving. That gave him the visibility to devise successful attack methods. He also knew Mike White is not your long range bomber but just like Matty Ice and others, can execute the short game and that's what happened today. I only saw ONE bomb today which was wildly overthrown. I also saw a few short passes that could have gone thru brick walls too. Once MW got himself under control, the rest was easy. There wasn't a point in this game where I didn't think the Jets could score. Of all the adjustments made this week. LeFleur's move to the booth was critical to our win today. I saw an entirely different game philosophy. MW has the arm to make the long throw but that is not his game. Upside to that being plays take a lot less time to develop. I hope this is the plan going forward. Setting coaches up for success works too. Oh yeah, Denzel Mims isn't the first, nor the last Jet WR, to drop a TD pass so chill out haters. With this new development, the only real issue is what to do with Flacco once ZW returns. Now its a unwritten rule that you shouldn't lose your position due to injury, but ZW can benefit quite a bit by sitting out the rest of the season and learn how to play QB in the NFL. Just like the Knicks who no longer need one man carry the team, the Jets no longer need ZW to come of age THIS year. This should be Mike White's job until he proves he can't handle it. Flacco will probably be released. Lets see if today was a fluke or not. If I had one beef, its that MLF really has to stop with the gut runs at the goal line. That shit just doesn't work for us. Time to just round file that play and come up with new stuff.
Drop the FB slot and carry a third. That extra roster slot isn't going to save the season. Baby Zach needs the group parenting method.
When LaFleur first got here one of the first questions he was asked was about being in the booth with a potential rookie QB. He said he would make that decision when the time comes but that he was most comfortable in the booth. Today absolutely proved that which is why it is has been aggravating that it took this long to make the change. If this is the norm when he's in the booth, we got something going here. I'm not going to grant him a pass because of this one game, but if this is a glimpse into what the potential can be, I am 100% on board with him and this staff. It needs to be consistent though because he has been dog shit up to this point. Props where props are due. Mike White played out of his mind today. As did this offense including Carter, Moore, and Crowder. It is no coincidence it happens when he moves up top.
Not saying LaFloor moving to the booth is a bad thing... but it had nothing to do with us scoring on the opening drive. Jus' sayin'.... I think there's lots more to it...
As I said in the other thread, he prefers being in the booth, Zach reportedly wanted him on the sideline for calling plays
Not sure if you're implying that the offense was just as good that game as they were today. If so, that is completely wrong. The offense was an entirely different animal today, including the screen game
I'd say a smidgen of credit to today's result is that the Bengals got off their bus today and expected to win just by being there. They've got a big game against the Browns next week...and this is the classic trap game. Add to that, the Jets were humiliated last week. In every way possible. I like to think that Saleh ripped into the team and got this kind of response, but I don't think that's who he is. Whatever buttons he pushed last week, definitely got the effort out of his team needed to compete at the highest level. But hell, they're all men...after last week's beatdown...if they didn't respond, it would be ugly up in here right now. I prefer what we got today. I'd like to order another serving Thursday!
I've been wanting him to move to the booth for a while. Immediate dividends. The playcalling was much better. Moore also had his best game as a pro. If not for an overthrow he would have broken 100 and a TD
Love the OP. Just want to point out that if ZW loses the starting job (big if at this point) it will be because he blew chunks and the guy after him played well. No way Wally Pipp should have gotten his job back after Gehrig took over and *if* White plays well, well ZW had his chance.
Agree completely. Big kudos to the CS on this. This team was fired up, gutsy and played their hearts out. The players have not lost the drive, spirit and team unity. Avoid mistakes and stay focused. No one gave them a chance in hell and scored the most points by far against this good Bengal team.
Wouldn't that be karma... Mo Lewis setting up the Patriot run after knocking out Bledsoe. the Patriots setting up the Jets by knocking out Wilson. I saw a kid that looked like he can play in LeFleur's system and play well. His name isn't Wilson either.
This is mind blowing. I totally forgot that's how Bledsoe went down. What a change from our miserable history, if so
