That's fine. No one said that we had to agree. I agree that in both of those games the D was beaten early and often and they weren't gassed, but how about the other games? The D pretty much kept us in those games.

Could the D be alot better? No doubt, and I expect to see them get better. Neither unit is good right now, but the D is doing better than I thought they would. I thought the offense would carry this team this season, and that has not been the case at all.

So much to say, but who really cares.

Guy needs to get his head out of that sand and start scheming with the talent he has.

    Round peg, square hole guy.

I don’t think there’s any need to get personal.

May be missing something, but fail to see how that's personal?

Just a joke, I wasn't serious. I usually hate using emojis but maybe I should have used one there...

And I'm not saying it was a particularly funny joke!

Lafleur hasn't even demonstrated basic competence as an offensive coordinator.

    A good read

    https://www.si.com/nfl/2021/08/16/why-its-hard-to-copycat-the-shanahan-style-offense-daily-cover

    a Snippet

"The difference with Shanahan’s offense and its various clones is that it’s extraordinarily difficult to teach, especially up front, because, for offensive linemen, most of the required movements are unique to this scheme. Blocking schemes require specific personnel that exclude a lot of standard, lumbering type linemen. Some of the most critical blocks cannot be practiced, because the backside “cutting” techniques, which ask an offensive lineman to dive at the turf, tripping a chasing defender at the hips, are too dangerous to try out on fellow teammates who could easily sustain lower body injuries."

In general, I think sticking to simple when possible is best in all methodologies. What do the Patriots do? Do they have a relatively simple offensive scheme?

It's surprising that the NFL hasn't outlawed those kinds of blocks since they can lead to lower body injuries.

They hold on every play. That's what the Patriots do.

We’ll see what happens in the next couple of weeks. Yeah I get White’s not a good QB yet but it will be interesting now that he worked with the first team, let’s see what happens. I know not much will happen but curious if the offense moves the ball.

The idea that the Shanahan offense works in the NFL is a farce. A farce that I fell for initially when we hired Lafleur.

When Shanahan moved to San Fran and Lafleur coached with him, San Fran’s offense ranked as follows, in points scored:

    2017 – 20th in points
    2018 – 21st in points
    2019 – 2nd in points
    2020 – 21st in points

The only anomaly was 2019 when they went to the Super Bowl. Outside of that one year, the offense has been shit in scoring, which translates to exactly what we are experiencing now.

The scheme sucks. It does not cater to player strengths and it is way too difficult for a young team and a rookie QB to learn. The blocking schemes are incredibly unique and unlike anything else. The players spend half of their time trying to figure out what they should be doing and meanwhile our season is wasting away.

Fuck this guy and his bullshit offense. It blows.

    I tend to agree.

The problem may be that young LaFloor may not know anything else but the Shanahan offense... what's he gonna pivot to?

We're stuck with this shit show as long as he's the OC...

Maybe he can learn a thing or three from his brother. Of course it helps to have a HOF QB, but Matt did bring new life to Green Bay after they were stagnant in 2018.

They have a HOF QB. That conversation/argument is dead following that statement.

I guarantee you I could call a successful offense with Aaron Rodgers running it.

Not to toot my own horn, but it is 1000% true and accurate.

This offensive system does not cater to player strengths and it is apparent every Sunday.

I posted it in the "Fire Douglas" thread, but every game we see shit that makes no sense. Last week we ran a quick hit WR screen out wide. The screen obviously required the second WR to lead block to open the lane. Who is the lead blocking wide receiver? Elijah Moore. The WORST blocking wide receiver we have on our roster. Why the fuck is he blocking for that play?

It is fuckin mind blowing that they are still "trying to figure out what works". I know what works. Fire Lafleur

Extremely simple and it's been in place for a decade. It's partially why it seemed like NE could throw any "scrub" WR in and have them perform. The other part was having Tom Brady.
