There are some people who struggle in their roles that I respect as people. Bowles was one of them for instance. I didn't care for him as the Jets coach, but I'd be honored to meet him in person. If I met Woody in person, it would be all I could do not to tell him to fuck himself.
I never said backup. He would be here to compete for the starting job with a good chance of coming out on top. There were other veterans available, I just happened to like him. The fact that we did not sign anyone and now have to cough up draft capital for mediocrity is a fireable offense.
He was basically guaranteed a starting position with the Saints and Sean Peyton. Try again. A fireable offense. You have to be fucking kidding me. If that's a fireable offense what is fleecing Seattle out of 2 first rounders for a one dimensional "safety" that can't catch a ball thrown straight to him considered? They should give him part ownership.
so compete with the 2nd overall on a new team or get handed the starting job on a team he's been with. still an easy choice and plus as we seen winston isn't that good at all
@Jonathan_Vilma Here is an article I came across just today describing how GVR basically screws up the entire line's performance, where they look worse as a unit than a sum of individuals. I also am not sure about McGovern's rating as a C, because C is responsible for a lot of communications, and that seems to be an issue with the line. I do however think AVT's good PFF rating so far passes the eye test and would expect that to be true for other Gs I mentioned that have bad ratings, which were drafted right after AVT or in the 3d round, where the suggestion was keeping pick and drafting AVT's and GVR's replacements. If that happens, we don't have AVT but a much worse option plus another scrub worse than GVR.
great article. doesn't surprise me at all. I've been saying how trash he was while others said otherwise. mainly @NCJetsfan tagging him so he can read it too. MF is getting flack but GVR is killing the offense. it shows why PFF ranks our WRs high but they aren't producsing. they are getting open but GVR is runing it every time and every team sees it on film and knows this
EDIT: Never mind. Saw the link. Yawn. Michael Nania dude. C'mon. Some more "advanced analytics" that are just subjective. Regardless, you're not going to convince me that based on silly PFF ratings, we can believe that 4/5ths of the Jets offensive line has been good despite being ranked dead last in rushing and 6th worst in sacks allowed. The point that @REVISion was making was that the Jets roster is obviously atrocious so he did not feel it was a smart move to trade three potential contributors (including potentially two new starting guards) for one. AVT has to be Zach Martin or Quenton Nelson good for several years or else the pick is a failure. Teams find good to great guards in the mid rounds all the time. You're spiking the football a bit early on him being better than the Royce Newman's of the world and such. Not to mention, I'm sure Darrisaw's been pretty good if he's on the field and blocking for that awesome offense. Zimmer hates playing young players. Van Roten sucks. I agree. He's not the only reason the line gets no push in the running game or allows sacks left and right.
@nc We got two back, not one. The point is that while in general I actually agree with @REVISion on this, you have to look at it on case by case basis. In this instance AVT is significantly better than the guard we would have gotten otherwise in early second (very likely Jenkins, who is out all season) and the guards that went in the 3d round. The 3d round pick we would have saved, who would be GVR's replacement, stinks even worse than GVR. In aggregate the strategy of picking two Gs instead of one to maximize chances of success, while generally is not a bad idea, in this particular case would have miserably failed. Hence not only did JD made the right choice, he avoided a likely disaster had he not made the trade.
Sam was third overall and according to many people here "worst starting QB in the NFL". Winston just beat the Seahawks on MNF. Zach not so much.
He's not significantly better in any sense of the word yet. If you want to take the wait and see approach with a player like Wilson and others and bang the 6 games drum, let's do that for the supposed successes as well. The Packers line blows people off the ball at times (albeit sometimes they don't) and they're starting two rookie interior lineman including a rookie center making the line calls and a 6th round second year player while Jenkins plays tackle until Baktiari is back. 5/7 of the games the Packers have played have been against top 12 defenses (4 in the top ten).
kamara just beat the seahawks who had a backup QB. if wilson is not hurt. seattle wins. sam was 3-0 when he had c-mac
There are a lot of arguments to be made in a variety of directions. Signing Jameis Winston does not seem to be one that has any validity.
Alex Leatherwood and Landon Dickerson are currently both performing at the same level AVT is. We could have gotten Leatherwood at 23 or Dickerson at 34, without trading our 3rds. Both players also play multiple positions.
Agreed, not sure what the future holds, but so far AVT has been far ahead of a G we would have drafted instead (in case of likely candidate Jenkins who is has a career threatening injury VERY far ahead) and additional G we would have drafted with the 3d rounder would not result in much help either, as I pointed out earlier. You are complaining about performance of the line up to this point, it would have been FAR worse if JD does not pull the trigger.
Admittedly I have not studied the tape of each play of Dickerson, but according to PFF he sucks worse than GVR and no where near AVT's level. Having two GVRs on this team instead of one is not what this team needs at this point. Leatherwood is not a G, and we would likely draft Moore (according to Saleh and JD) had we not traded up with the 23d, so Leatherwood is irrelevant in this discussion. Oh, and also we could have drafted Jenkins to be a G too, as he was rated pretty high. How would that work out? The reality is that the way it worked out with AVT - at least so far - is FAR better than the realistic alternatives.
