I said interior DL, not a DT.
he’s a position versatile DL, effective at 0, 1, 3, 5 and even 7 tech in sub packages.
He’s not an edge guy tho.
People Around here still praise Abraham who was one trick pony with no heart. But he had sacks.

It’s funny because so many people try to dismiss him as a DT which couldn’t be further from the truth.

The season starts in September. He had all of freaking camp that’s a lot of offseason.
Yes not draft or first waive of FA, but he still had an impact which you trying desperately to dismiss.
Ok forget about 2019 for a min, 2020 and 2021 been an utter disaster we can agree on that no?

You want to hate JD, I get it. Hate away. He doesn't deserve to be defended right now, but that doesn't mean everything he's done is garbage.

Drafting Davis? Now that's pure garbage. He didn't look the part in the college video I saw and he looks terrible in the NFL when he's not hurt. Perrine also looks like a bad pick.

Not everything has been garbage, but I can say the same about previous GMs too.
The effusive praise of JD is what gets to me, considering 2020 especially.
    These are dark days.

I have been killed on here for stating JD was the problem. You could see it early on. He was brought in to make an average team great and he could not do it and now he has missed on a total rebuild. He needs to go. He might go down as having the worst record a GM has had in Jets history

The question is, "Is this JD's approach philosophically, or is this mandated by ownership to recoup money still being paid to former coaches and players"?

The team was never average, the 7-9 record was a mirage from the easiest second-half schedule I've ever seen. But the disturbing part is 2 offseasons later, and the team has shown zero signs of improvement and is probably even worse.

    Why is that the question?

Is there any indication that the owners have directed any such cost saving in the past? Is there any indication the owners were not in agreement with terminating those former guys and incurring those expenses?

    my thoughts exactly!!!

I HATE when people get that confused!

yes you have to give the staff a chance…which really should be more than six games, but in the end, great players and coaches don’t take YEARS to show they’re great….it comes quick.

so yeah, obviously we are 6 games in with new everything, so they need a chance, but the problem is the performances have been atrocious….like historically bad….no points in the first quarter, giving up 50+ points today, team looks disinterested….this is not going in the right direction. We are not seeing ANY progress…offense STILL sucks balls, defense too…coaching looks lost…there are no real signs to point to that would indicate progress

I think most of us fans could tolerate losses (not that we should have to after 10 straight years of no playoffs), but to see the kind of shitshow we are putting on the field is disgusting.

the Jags and Lions are both better than us…at least they are competitive…we are not even close

I don’t know how this ends up….but seriously…how many damn years are we going to be rebuilding?

This. How long are people going to keep saying the "Joe Douglas has only been here for........." garbage. The results are clear as day and this is HIS team. Only Jets fans believe rebuilds need to take the entire first contract of a GMs tenure. We are so acceptable or garbage that we convince ourselves of this ever 3-5 years instead of expecting results.

If you have been in control for two years and by the start of year three, the team looks worse than it did in year one, you've failed. Douglas has failed. And that's not because the team hasn't won games or made the playoffs or anything like that. It's because there's been literally no progress from his first day to his last.

If you want a guy to turn a player into draft picks or turn a draft pick into more draft picks, Douglas is your guy. If you want someone to then take those picks and turn them into competent NFL players... it looks like you're gonna want to find someone other than Joe Douglas.

He got so spooked by Trumaine Johnson that he went out and signed nobody. While I get where he came from, he just hasn't done enough unfortunately. You need to put a team together. It shouldn't take 3+ years. We haven't won more than two games in two full years LMAOOOOOO

    hard to argue with that.

Who has Douglas brought in that is any good? It's truly hard to find a name. Q Williams, Mosley, Crowder and Maye are all McCagnan guys and those are the only good players on the team.

    Well said.

NFL rebuilds can be done in three. They're not always sustained if they succeed, but they aren't these 5 year tanks like you see some baseball teams undergo.

The problem is that this team looks like it's on a 5 year path because we're not even remotely competitive. The Lions almost beat the Rams in LA yesterday with an equally dog shit roster. We got piss pounded into the ground by the team that lost to 1-6 Miami.

I do think both Carters are good. Bryce Hall has CB1 potential. Fant has been very good this year. JFM was a great pickup off the waiver wire. I really can't name you many players beyond that and that's a huge problem.

And even with those guys being solid, we are the worst team in the league so...

I've said it in a bunch of different threads over the course of the last year but it's EXTRA embarrassing because the fucking BROWNS AND BILLS figure it out, but we can't. They both rebuilt on the fly and even though Cleveland is having a meh year, both teams have seen way more success than we have since our 2010 season. Even the Bengals are on the verge of figuring it out.

Those guys aren't exactly good though. I mean its not like they are going to the pro bowl or anything.

Fant was a weird signing, hes not a bad player but he's a finesse linemen. That's fine if your philosophy is a quick running game with athletic linemen. When they signed him, they didn't and Fant was not good, so then he goes and drafts maulers like Becton & AVT and signs another one in Moses. So now they got 3 power linemen, but they are back to running a system with a finesse running game and Fant is the only one who looks good. Just shows he doesn't know how to build a team. The GM should have a plan for roster construction and should be hiring a staff that can coach his roster. How long is it going to take for the Jets to learn this

When Joe Douglas signed his 6 year deal, did he realize his team needed to win games before the 6 years was up? Or did he just think you get 6 years to build your team, and then the Wins and Losses count?! That is how he acts.
