We already have a Fire LaFleur and a Fire Saleh thread, so why not one for the guy who hired them? And the guy who had 2.5 offseasons and put together this tire fire of a roster. I was considering a Fire Adam Douglas thread title, but I guess even I'm not that cruel.
Dude didn’t want to spend money on FA for the QB and we have all this cap space and an awful roster. We ain’t making a super bowl lol. Spend money this year and build a damn team. He should know who is worthy or not ie Trumaine Johnson stories
I don’t know how you can’t consider Douglas on the hot seat. He makes great trades and then doesn’t do shit beyond that. No notable draft picks, no notable free agent signings, regression year to year which is actually fucking impressive coming off last year. He’s done close to nothing right and should be treated as such.
GMs do their work in the offseason. The 2019 team was Maccagnan's work. The Jets are 3-19 in the JD era.
I think "hot seat" may be too strong as I think the Johnson's would have to be faced with a significantly more to put JD in jeopardy for his job...however, if the season continues like this and it's a 2-3 win season AND (and this is a very big AND) we don't know if Wilson is the franchise QB, then I think entering 2022 he is on the hot seat...but also think he'd get all of 2022 to right the ship. I like JD and am trying to trust his judgement but if his first draft is a bust, if Saleh doesn't work out and especially if Wilson doesn't work out, can't just put my head in the sand either...Yes, I'm a little panicked in writing this as this season could not, absolutely could not have gone more horrible so far, but at some point like Saleh said "got to put up or shut up"...It's a production business and wins can be sacrificed towards the growth of the QB of the future, but one of those things has to happen...
Man I'm sure glad that Douglas didn't pony up the $2.5 million to sign CJ Breathard to be the backup.
We all know the Johnsons are Sham Owners I guess we are finding out Joe Douglas has punked us all as well. Think about it : the 40% of his tenure with Trading and trimming the Roster aside, the 60 per cent sucks: his acquisitions are all questionable imo Can anyone at this point tell me what Rookie or FA excels on this steaming shit of a team?? Added insult to injury is the massive disappointment with Saleh>>>I understand RS was a very hot HC commodity but he and definitely LaFleur should be let go if we continue being noncompetitive inept, and unprepared . Follow the Browns lead , dump your HC at Seasons end and get us Stefanski like HC and a seasoned OC ..this is BS atm. If Douglas sticks with things its a FIREABLE offense (and the Johnsons can afford it)...he saves his job if he brings in a winning Team
That’s the other thing… not only has close to nothing he’s done panned out for us, but the things he DIDNT do have killed us. No backup QB, no TE for your rookie QB…
If Douglas is here next year, I'm not going to watch them at all. The last three GMs had pretty much the same goal: Stay WAAAAY under the salary cap. Idzik's MO was to simply do nothing; sign nobody of note except bargain basement has-beens. Mac's MO was to throw a lot of money at one or two players and then assume that it would make up for not spending money anywhere else. JD's MOs has been to pinch every penny and try to play moneyball. The job of the GM should be to build a good fucking football team! And yet, they act like every penny they don't spend goes into their Christmas bonus!
I totally get this point! My two cents, the experienced backup QB thing only mattered to me as a support system to Wilson as I never thought we'd win more than 3-4 games so any back up QB wasn't going to make or break anything...I'm sure they discussed this and figured, we're running with Wilson through the thick of it no matter how bad it may get so if Wilson isn't playing it's because he's hurt...and if he's hurt, being this thing is in total rebuild mode (hopefully out of cement vs. the tin foil we're seeing), then winning an extra game or two won't matter and in fact will hurt draft position...again, just a total guess on my part as what the hell do I know
I'm not on board with this or with Saleh. Fire Lafleur, by all means. But I have liked a lot of what JD has done especially considering the absolute shit fest the GMs before him created. He was also forced into a season with Gase, which was horseshit.
