The article is just meant to get clicks. Climate change, like all other political issues these days, has become an article of faith for each side. There will be no converts. Luckily, the side that accepts science as fact has won the youth. They may be the ones to salvage this planet.
I know you've fully drank the koolaid on this issue and that's great, but your knowledge of what is science appears to be very naive. You really have no idea the levels of evidence necessary to make a deductive or inductive scientific conclusion. FWIW I know a lot of youth who are training in science and critical thinking and not being merely indoctrinated.
Yes, i who accepts scientific consensus have drank the kool aid. I have seen the light! Climate change is a hoax, the koch brothers have everyone's best interest at heart. Why would they and other industrialists pour millions of dollars into the GOP? It couldn't be for short term profits, no, it must be that they know the truth and the scientific community is conspiatorial cabal.
Is it possible that because most of us live in the North East USA, one of the least affected areas so far, it makes it easier to believe the lies that climate change is a myth? The age old, 'you have to see it to believe it' thing... -- Just came to mind because I got a new co-worker from North-Central California, she's been telling me about where she lives. It is completely different than the North-Central California experience she grew up in. Drier, hotter, deader by a lot. You dont have to convince her the climate is changing, she's living it. I'm an upstate NY guy, its not much different than when I was younger, we've been so fortunate. But if everything was dry and dead and brown, obviously there wouldn't be morons claiming its a hoax.
The northeast has been very affected by climate change. Precipitation is way up in all seasons and we're getting lots of flooding as a result. I-95 was under water in RI for a stretch about 7 years ago. That was the first time a major storm and a tidal surge had coincided and the roadway actually got covered. I'll never forget that one because It turned a 4.5 hour drive into an 18 hour drive for me.
Actually, 84 recorded hurricanes have hit nyc. 8 of those since 1980. 4 from 80-99 4 from 2000- present.
Yes, it's vital that such an important issue be examined free of political biases that might skew results (and opinions). One source on climate change I consider as generally objective and nonpartisan is NASA. They don't strike me as an organization of scientific crackpots, and they are not so far as I know supported by PAC's of any political persuasion. Among other things, NASA has been able to put a man on the moon, so I think they probably know a bit about the "levels of evidence necessary to make a deductive or inductive scientific conclusion." Having undoubtedly done such detailed analysis (and with their credibility on the line in divisive times), here is one scientific conclusion NASA has come to: "In Brief: Human activities (primarily the burning of fossil fuels) have fundamentally increased the concentration of greenhouse gases in Earth’s atmosphere, warming the planet. Natural drivers, without human intervention, would push our planet toward a cooling period." Causes | Facts – Climate Change: Vital Signs of the Planet (nasa.gov) I sincerely doubt that any scientific analysis done by any other researcher will be as detailed and considered as that which has been done by NASA for several years now.
If it was so dire, I'd imagine the patricians would be doing something a bit more urgently than they're doing with their footprint that's 100x mine or yours. Along with attacking corporations that are by far the biggest polluters on the planet rather than shaming you and me for using straws and driving a truck. What are you doing to lighten your footprint? Do you use disposable utensils ever? Cups? Keurig pods? Do you drive an electric vehicle? Do you use AC in the summer?

Climate change in temperate areas (e.g. northeast) shows deciduous trees (esp. sugar maples) "turning" later than they used to decades ago. More and more trees (NY northern suburbs) are still green Halloween into November.
I'm not saying I know it all-- I'm saying that NASA knows more than you and me put together, and they aren't getting paid by environmental or fossil fuel lobbies, so I think they're more trustworthy than most of the political garbage that's flooding the internet. And, yes, I'll any day take "regurgitation" of facts put forth by NASA over empty-headed, partisan opinions with nowhere near the scientific basis.
Yes, I'm constantly amazed that people can be so casual about the many signs that we're messing up our planet, which is our only true home (with apologies, Mars is nowhere near as nice). And I do think you're right that wealthy people (and nations) tend to have a larger carbon footprint per capita than people (and nations) that are less wealthy. I also have heard that to really put a dent in the climate change problem, small actions by individuals won't do it. I've heard that larger scale interventions (e.g., with corporations and dirty nations like China) will be necessary. That being said, I feel better when I try to minimize my contribution to the problem in any way I can.
I'm getting 54 mpg with my 2017 Prius. My next car will be all electric. As I said, I'm a sucker for lighting candles over cursing the darkness, so I'm doing little things. These include combining trips, carefully recycling, keeping the air at 77 in the summer and the heat at 60 on winter nights, etc. I believe I can do more than I'm doing.
