So if he addresses the position and the way he addresses it fails, he gets points for at least trying?

Not TE, I was hoping for a contract year revival from Herndon. FB is not a spot I usually worry about. I think that can be filled rather easily.

Going into the season he gets a point for addressing it. After the season he gets points added or deducted based on the results. But I’m not going to say he knowingly entered the season with holes at spots we know he addressed.

I am thinking this is something we as a fanbase decided it was going to be like, it certainly isn't looking like any 49ers offence atm.

Every single thing the Johnson Twins are doing should be geared toward getting the #1 overall pick for the 2025 draft. I'll take a few SB rings between now and then, as long as we're picking first in 2025.

You can make a pretty good argument that we are the most favored team for the 2025 #1 overall at this point.

I'd make us and Detroit about even money - with maybe the Bears and Jaguars in the running also depending on how their QB's turn out.

This fan base would be calling him a bust if he does not look like a HOFer from the first game.

The media thought so, and I think that's why many of us fans thought that would be the case.

I never thought Herndon would bounce back. Since he was back, I hoped he would, but after last season, I was thinking/hoping he'd have gotten cut out of TC. I'm glad now that he wasn't because we have an additional 4th round pick now.

I don't know how "easily" the FB position can be filled since we still don't have a reliable one. As you know in Shanahan's offense, the FB has to be a great blocker, and a very good receiver and decent runner.. How many college teams even have FBs any more?

Contract year often times will turn bums into stars. Herndon proved that even money won’t motivate him.

There is not a surplus of talent at FB like there was in the 90's and 00's, most of the guys available in FA are one-dimensional JAGs.

For my money, if you have to spend a roster spot on a specialized role like that, he better be able to catch the ball and run a few short routes at least.

But these guys have me settling for somebody that can block at this point.

IMO either your posts are more fair and balanced in this thread, or I and perhaps others, misunderstood you earlier. If it's the latter, I apologize. Either way, I'm not upset by anything you've said in this thread.

There goes that word bust again. If anyone is playing a drinking game, they should be nice and toasty right about now.

No need to apologize but I do struggle to understand why anyone would get upset by my posts as I don’t believe I attack anyone personally.

When you word it like that, I would say no. Replace the QB or replace the Head Coach, because Douglas has built a really good roster.

I mean if you want to say their best football is ahead of them and let's see how the year finishes out and all that jazz, I'm in.

But how in the world has he built a really good roster this far? His team is 3-18 after he's had two off seasons while being outscored 310-578. We had the 27th ranked kicking game in the league last year and 29th ranked net punting game. We can't even do that stuff right.
