Preferring Fields < > disdain for Wilson. The more accurate statement would be I wanted no part of Wilson with Fields still on the board.
Then that should've happened when we were seeing success over a decade ago. Patience shouldn't be given willy nilly. It should be earned. So far I haven't truly seen the pay off of JDs vision. That needs to be established before giving more power and time. Giving someone time for the sake of It isn't going to magically make things better If they aren't suited for their respective job. He might be the answer at GM. I'm not ready to stand behind that until I see results. Patience will be had once it's earned. That hasn't happened yet.
I think JD is a bad GM regardless of how Zach turns out and TGG is borderline delusional in rationalizing away the fact that after 2 offseasons with JD, we still have a bottom 5 roster that's arguably worse than the one he inherited. It's all about saying X move was good, or he has a "plan," or he was "well respected" according to some media source while ignoring the 1000 pound elephant in the room that we don't have good players on the team.
If JD stays then Wilson is the QB next year. Absolutely cannot give him another QB pick that will then be washed out by the next regime. They're going to have to succeed or fail together. It's the only way to keep this tragedy from extending well into the decade.
If, at the end of 2023, this team looks like it’s a qb a way, everyone stays . Qbs are lotto tickets , I’m not going to kill a guy for missing on one if the rest of the team is solid. I’m always a gm gets 2 coaches coaches get 2 qbs type person.
JD went all in on Wilson. If Wilson fails JD should not get the chance to screw up a third QB (yes, I am including Darnold).
I implore you to go back and look at the 2019 roster again. 2021 is better, or a push, at every single position with the exception of Safety. QB: Push RB: Push WR/TE: 2021 OL: 2021 DL: 2021 LB: 2021 DB: 2019 JD has absolutely made mistakes as the GM here but this roster is a lot better than it was in 2019.
The 2019 offense had 273 yards and 17.2 points per game, and the defense gave up 323 yards and 22.4 points per game. The 2021 offense has 267 yards and 13.4 points per game, and the defense has given up 373 yards and 24.2 points per game. The 2019 schedule was very soft, but this one's been pretty soft as well. There's just no way you can say this team is at least as good at all but one position group when these are the results they've produced.
Why are you basing the talent level on yards and points per game. Maybe we’re more talented but not better coached at this early stage.
The problem with those stats is that’s a full season for 2019 and only 5 games for 2021. I’m sure you remember in the 2019 season we started 1-7. I think a more apt comparison would be how those teams stacked up after Week 6. 2019 had their bye in Week 4, so both teams were 1-4 after Week 6. Offense: 2019: 220 yards/game and 12.6 points/game. Edge in both to 2021. Defense: 2019: 358 yards/game and 24.6 points/game. Edge to 2019 in yards, 2021 in points. Again, go through the actual team, is there a single unit other than the DB’s that you’d take over the group we have this year?
The better comparison is 2021 to the entire 2019 season becuase otherwise you're cherry-picking the bad part of 2019 while ignoring the good. And the odds that we go 6-2 in the second half this year are very low. Regarding the units, first of all, outside of Sam getting mono (which was a fluke and not Maccagnan's fault), the Jets had better QB play in 2019 than 2021. You can argue that Zach is a rookie, so maybe you'd still prefer him over Sam, but Sam was better than this, even as a rookie. I also think OL and WR/TE are pushes; the OL play has been very bad this year despite JD investing in it, and while we have Corey Davis now, we don't have Robby Anderson anymore. And on defense, I'd say the front 7 is better now, but the secondary was better then. So I see this roster being equally good as in 2019 with worse QB play. And remember, Maccagnan was a terrible GM, so it isn't like the bar for JD was anything other than very low.
JD already burned thru Darnold. if he burns thru Wilson as well, he will be responsible for blowing more draft capital than any GM in Jets history. No, he doesn’t get another chance for a 3rd Qb.
Maccagnan drafted Darnold and screwed up his development by hiring Gase. But I agree that if Wilson busts, JD shouldn't get another chance because it isn't just Wilson; his 2020 draft class looks like a Maccagnan class, and his 2021 class, outside of AVT, isn't impressing me either.
It doesn’t matter who drafted him. JD was handed Darnold in his 2nd year and the team had a ton of draft capital invested in him. JD doubled down on Gase after having an entire year to watch him and his effect on Darnold personally, Then he took away Darnolds best weapon, while signing a 38 yr old RB. JD is what did Darnold in here. I agree regarding JD’s 2020 draft tho. Very Mac-like. Almost exactly so unfortunately.
Not me, Lance not Wilson I am only in it for the quip's (ps when you say quips, it sounds like you have a lisp, sorry to people who do have an actual lisp)
