I was positive that he would be a failure as coach, but I certainly didn't think that it would be because of something like this. It seems pretty apparent that many people around the league knew about his hardly-hidden views, and willingness to share those views with others. Did ESPN really not know about this at the time? Did the Raiders really not know in 2018, when it had apparently been going on for seven years?
He was a .500 coach who won with Dungy's team in 2002 with a slew of Hall of Famers on a defense he didn't coach. For a quarterback guru he also never developed a real quarterback behind a nice year from Johnson in the SB year and of course a couple with Gannon. He was always massively overrated especially every four years when this board felt we should hire him. While I think the Raiders would've had to move on from him in this situation anyways, it was also a nice easy out for them from that atrocious ten year deal that hasn't yielded any results in his fourth year with sub .500 football thus far.
Do not send e-mails to anybody with anything that would upset your grandmother if she saw them. Period.
Obviously, ESPN knew about this and they definitely condoned this behavior back then. I find it hard to believe there are no other NFL names that may come up. ESPN is now more of a liberal socialist network and I am not surprised they are now changing their tune. Gruden has always been outspoken and it does not surprise me that his mouth finally got him in trouble. He insulted Biden, Goodell, Obama, DeMaurice Smith, Caitlyn Jenner, Bryan Glazer, and had the nerve to argue that the name "Redskins" should remain. In this politically correct socialist authoritarian culture are we really surprised?
Look his Raider's team would have beat my Patriots if it were not for the Tuck rule. He help deliver a Super Bowl to the Bucks when even a hall of fame coach like Dungy could not do it. He had the Raiders playing pretty good football until this distracting incident. So to say he is not a good football coach is simply false.
Whut? I had coffee over at Panera Bed this weekend and I overheard some old balding skinny guy with glasses who could have been straight out of Grant Wood's American Gothic using that same phrase in some low monotone to two old biddies . It was beyond creepy.
This one escalated pretty quickly too...hot dayum. btt I read up on the initial email I looked up and it was more emails, meetings and boom...gone..in a matter of hours. What I found fascinating was how many of his peers said they never heard anything like that from him. I honestly am befuddled on which way to think about that part of it.
He will end his tenure in Oakland with a coaching record that puts him only 5 games over .500 and leaves the Raiders without a winning season to his name in his return campaign. He traded away his two best players and despite having seven first round picks in four years, he has drafted and developed all of those players into one Pro Bowl appearances. I didn't say he was a bad football coach, merely that he's overrated and coaches to .500 ball. He's alright. He was awesome as a broadcaster, but he was not worth all of that money and years he was given.
