My thought process on that one was

    1) WTF are they doing on 3rd and 2.
    2) Holy F*CK, that's ballsy
    3) He caught that.
    4) Inbounds. Nice toe drag Cole.

    10 seconds later ....

    5) They called and executed that on 3rd and 2 from the 40 in OVERTIME?!?!?!?!? Either Lafleur/Wilson are gamblers anonymous, or they are CONFIDENT.

The color guy on the broadcast noted that Zach saw it pre-snap... which is damn good for a rookie QB on his 4th start.

Still... the pass was perfectly placed.

Shame that drive stalled and we couldn't close out the game right there.
That designed run by Wilsonon 3rd & goal from the 1 was just dumb... especially when the play relies on VonRotten to lead block...

yup. zach read the defense and knew where he was going with it. snap happened , zach waited for the timing, then threw to a spot for cole to get under it. Here is the end zone view of the play form the all 22

Here is pre snap. looks like 4 rushers. no motion so hard to tell if it's zone or man. The play turned out to be man cover 1 with a LBer in the short middle zone and a S high in the deep middle zone. So a sideline throw was the correct call

Here we see post snap. What we see here is this. it is man. 55 is the short zone. zach is looking at davis which pulls the LBer into him. 20 (i think it's 20 dreads are covering the number) has davis in man. LBer 51 has the RB, S 31 has the TE. we have everyone out in routes so only 5 blockers and they dont' blitz so only 4 rushers.

Here the play develops a little. Zach looking the LBer outside opens the middle up and the TE is wide open for a 1st over the middle. Pocket is still clean. eveyrone is 1vs except AVT who is helping fant and mcgovern

Here we see 55 lets davis by to keep his short zone. The defense really keyed in on davis here. Which is expected so smart move to draw up a play that doesn't go to him. The line holds up great except for GVR who is bull rushed right into zach's face and the DT gets a hand up, how zach gets this ball off so good is beyond me. that's 6-4 jeffrey simmons with his hand up and zach gets it over him perfectly.

Here we get to finally see cole. look at that route. zach has a big window, he has 2 yards on the DB and about 10 yards to the sideline. plenty of room for zach to drop it in

success. cole catches it in stride and drags the feet which sets up the game winning FG. a misfire there and we have to punt it back. that was IMO his best throw even if ti wasn't the most physically impressive one

For comparison, here is the CD one

Here is pre snap, davis motions, a DB follows him and is yelled at to get back, so the DB had the wrong play or was trying to sell man, but either way it makes it obvious it's zone

Here is the PA. it draw everyone to the RB except the DE on the right who wisely stays in position for the cut back or if it's a fake. the LBers see ti's a fake and have to scramble back to their zones. We got their whole defense out of position here. Now comes the barrage of open men and zach going fuck it, I want the TD

Here we see crowder open over the middle. the TE falls down but he'll be up and open in a second

Here we see davis and the TE open but zach wants more

TE window closed but davis is still open and zach wants more

Davis and cole both open deep 1v1 so zach wants more

Here we see zach tell them to go deep even though both cole and davis are still open

Here we see them turn upfield and zach starts to wind up

Here the ball is up, watching this throw from this angle is just amazing. the pure arm strength and he didn't even get his body into it. he had to jump back from pressure. this isn't a heave, it's a lazer beam 60+ yards downfield put in a perfect spot.

Here is the ball placement. davis can use his body to block his defender and it's enough inside that the DB who peeled off cole to help out can't get involved in the play. during the game it looked tighter then what it was but on this angle you can see he had a clear throwing lane

So overall while the davis one was more impressive in terms of raw elite arm strength and wanting a big play, the cole one IMO was more of a smart QB play taking what the defense gives you, making the right read, and showing touch and accuracy on an important 3rd down. on the davis one it's 1st down in a tied game in good field position. if it's incomplete ti's no big deal and he had several chances for 10+, 20+, and 30+ yard completions during the play but really wanted the home run ball. Thats why I voted for the cole one in OT

EDIT: The TE didn't fall down, I wasn't paying attention to him and was looking downfield but on 2nd watch, he actually "blocks" the DE who stayed home. Not a good block, just threw himself at the DE but it was enough to allow zach to escape to the outside, if the TE doens't get that block zach may get sacked so good job by kroft even if ti looked funky

I mentioned it earlier... I'm happy the coaches are letting Zach loose... that shows confidence in not just his athletic ability but his ability to suss out the defenses he's presented with.

And he does not look overwhelmed out there. He's getting plays off in a timely manner... and it looks like he's making the correct protection calls.
We need to see how he does against better defenses. I don't see the Titans as that good.

One decent game after three shitty ones doesn't mean much... we're still the NY Jets...

The throw to Cole was spectacular, right in he basket 40+ yds in air against the sideline. That’s a big time play and good indicator of the kind of talent he has.

That throw impressed me more than the bigger ones.
