Truthfully, after fully evaluating everyhting for a few days, I do not think it is going to take as long as some think. Our receivers are good. They just have had a bad case of the drops lately. If we can fix the offensive line, and add a few more receivers, we can see a different product on the field. Our issues on offense are really on the offensive line. The alarming part is not how bad they are, but how bad they are given the resources put into it by JD. I don't think we're as far off as I first claimed. Seeing the numbers, it seems the issues are with GVR and McGovern.
Agree with both of you guys completely. Having said that, we need to do something with GVR ASAP. He is sinking this ship and forcing another blocker to step in and help his side of the ball. Isn’t there any one we can play at right guard. Even someone on a top team practice squad. JD we need help
I find it hard to believe JD isn't doing something behind the scenes to look into replacing him. This shit is so blatantly obvious, it's crazy. Bench his ass or cut him. Find someone more suitable and see what happens. The offensive line has not played the best, by any means, but it all is collapsing under one man.
X Factor does a really good job breaking down Wilson in week 3. They offer 2 videos one with all the bad Wilson plays one with all the good. I recommend watching the good 2nd. It is certainly more uplifting. https://jetsxfactor.com/2021/09/28/zach-wilson-mike-lafleur-culpable-ny-jets-film/
I think most of us knew it would take time with so much youth on the field and in the coaching staff. That’s not the issue. I think what’s really upsetting us is just how badly we are playing. Mostly on the OL….with two years and lots of moves made by JD, this line looks just as bad if not worse than last years OL. I think the second most disappointing thing on the field is the shifty play we’ve gotten from our receivers…we all expected much better based on preseason looks. Finally, LeFleur looks to be way over his head…playcalling has not been conducive to what we actually have in our players, and sitting Mims when our WRs have looked so bad outside of Berrios is criminal. Lots of blame to go around. But to me it starts with JDs OL. I bought the excuses two years ago…he inherited a shit OL from Mac, but shoot, after two first round picks and multiple free agents, it STILL looks like shit. And yeah I get Becton is out but they looked like shit week 1 also even with him in there. I do think we will be a better team by week 10 or 11 than we are showing now, but man, Zach may be dead by then if we don’t change up something now…GVR has been terrible, the playcalling has been terrible…how about we start there. And yeah, how about sitting Davis to start the next game until he figures out his job is to CATCH THE FUCKING BALL WHEN IT HITS YOUR HANDS
Completely agree. Zach Wilson is the future and JD has to do everything in his power to protect him. He already blatantly lied to Darnold's parents the day he took the job. He has to be better at this. Perhaps the expectation was Alex Lewis would win this job. Maybe Cam Clark would've been the answer. Either way, it's not GVR!. I'd even take Brian Winters or James Carpenter back (both are available btw). I have no idea if any of these guys have anything left in the tank or if they are scheme fits but I can't believe he's not bringing in offensive lineman for a look. Even OT's they could possibly kick inside. Maybe some are waiting for better opportunities but I would seriously take any of these guys over what we have... Mitch Schwartz (OT) Russ Okung (OT) Rick Wagner (OT) DJ Fluker Joe Dahl Nick Easton JR Sweezy Forest Lamp And while we are at it, why not bring in some safety help...Tre Boston, Kenny Vaccaro, Demarious Randall, even Bradley McDougald! Or LB's...Jamie Collins, Benardrick McKinney, Mychal Kendricks, even Avery Williamson!
Thank you for posting this! Good stuff. The cool part is that you are seeing Wilson learning and you are seeing him make rookie mistakes. The talent is there and he's a film junkie, so I definitely see him becoming great. We just need to put him in a better position. Drops killed us. Big time
Definitely the talent is there to play at an extremely high level but two things concern me. One can he consistently make the normal plays that move the chains and second is his mechanics eroding because of the rush. In regards to the second all QBs mechanics fall apart under a heavy rush but I am worried about this slowing his development. In regards to Zach consistently making the normal plays I think he can but he also really loves to be aggressive. I am holding judgment on this to see how he progresses. But you are right about him being a film junkie and my guess is a perfectionist. That he will keep always analyze his game and try to fix the flaws. But again I hold judgment as there has to be a rush and a high playing aggressive hero ball that is quite addictive. Taking the easy path might be harder than we think.
Excellent points. I’ll say this, if this team in total improves just one thing, that is, the dumb, unnecessary and preventable mistakes, continuously putting the offense in a big hole, we are more than half way towards playing competitive in this league.
To your point, stats don’t tell the story, Wilson was tagged for two interceptions on the last quarter of the Denver game due to pathetic play calling, courtesy of Le Fleur, forcing him to throw the long bomb against a secondary ready for it instead of shorter passes that he is most comfortable with behind this OL, loosening the D some, on a game that was out of reach.
