He doesn't need to be sat down. He's our best option. With a line like this, what's Mike White going to do? At this point, he has less experience than Zach Wilson. He's not going to do better. Sam Darnold wouldn't have done better, Peyton Manning wouldn't do better. The line needs to be addressed and like now. Whether its from coaching or new personnel, that needs to be fixed first. He's been sacked 10 times in 3 games, that's insane.
We wouldn't be doing this to save the season, we'd be doing it to save Wilson's psyche. The point is not that White is worse than Wilson, of course he is. The point is that we aren't winning anything this year even with Wilson so we might as well not ruin him in the process.
I disagree. All of the rookie QBs are off to a rough start. He still needs the experience. Even if we had a solid line, one injury could put us back in the position of a shit line. Look at the chiefs last year in the Super Bowl. Maholmes was running for his life the whole game. I’m going to say this till I’m blue in the face. I didn’t see us winning the first three games to begin with. We faced three tough Ds in a row. All of our weaknesses have been exposed for exactly what they are. There’s plenty of football time this season to address them. I have us beating Tennessee. This week coming up is our first winnable game in my book.
Maybe you're on to something--I thought Tenn would be at least a -600 fav but they're only at -350. Interesting.
Even if we could stash him on IR or even bench him for a minor issue then we run into 2 problems. 1. Not exactly fair to our other players development if the replacement is (in all probability) worse. Our receivers might start running perfect routes and have perfect hands but if the ball never arrives, arrives late or misthrown then it's a waste, plus the OL will be under extra pressure from trying to protect a slower thinker who might not be setting protections at the appropiate level. Then our D has to spend inordinate amounts of time on the field trying to keep games from being full blowouts. 2. At some point it'll be pointed out that Zach has probably recovered from his illness and unless we're into the second coming of Tom Brady then the narrative is that this is his team and you have to put him back in. All in all, I was expecting a pretty crap season results wise and am willing to defend many of the decisions made in the off-season but I find the failure to add a veteran QB to the roster to be the one example of gross negligence.
It's going to come down to containing Derrick Henry. I think our D can do it. As long as our WRs can shake the stone hands bug, we should be good. At the very least, it's going to be a close game.
It's not just a rough start though. Wilson is on pace to break Carr's sacks-taken record. It's among the worst starts to protecting a rookie QB ever. Anyone reasonable expected Wilson to have growing pains. These are not growing pains. He's been under a historic amount of pressure so far.
Wilson learning has to take a back seat right now, because as it stands he's starting to develop bad habits due to how bad our pass protection is. He's not learning anything behind this line right now. It's not an NFL offensive line.
Yep ..ruin another one its what Jets do so well SAD but I am facing that grim reality Maybe theres a Book NFL QBing for Dummies that Zach could read because this Coaching Staff has done absolutely nothing for him. Its the Sam D syndrome all over again...same empty promises from our GM to find an OL to protect the damn QB Honest to God ..Hate to say it but I see less talent and more Loose Cannon from ZW
So you put White in and he gets hurt or....he plays worse. Who are we back to? I get what you're saying but, Wilson's our only choice right now.
How well we do this season is not at all a consideration of mine. I don't care how bad White is or who replaces him if he gets hurt. The point is we cannot let Wilson continue to get pummeled or we are going to completely screw his development. We aren't winning anything this season even with Wilson in. We need to think longer term.
