Herndon has played 24 snaps in Minnesota so far this year and Bell's out of the league. Moving Adams was the right move. The rest, yes mostly.
Yeah - you have to do a lot of things wrong to have the worst offense in the entire league over and over.
The thing that kills me about Douglas is that he was supposedly an offensive line guru and what was on the field today might be the worst offensive line in the history of the team.
As others have pointed out, JD seems to like playing moneyball when he doesn't need to...and he's also not very good at it to begin with. I don't know if the Johnsons still have him by the balls and are telling him to be stingy, or if he's just like Mac and Idzik and just too much of a numbers and budget guy to understand talent and team unity. The team has a lot of salary cap room, and he's still fighting to keep every penny, which is showing a huge lack of appreciation for both incoming and returning players, and he's not even attempting to sign known talent even at positions of dire need.
Have any of you ever considered the fact that maybe some players simply DON'T WANT to come to the Jets? Thats what this "culture change" needing to happen is all about. I'm not saying that there hasn't been too much financial contraint and that he couldn't do better at all, and in fact I have been saying the offensive line (specifically GVR still having a starting spot) has been a big indictment on JD. All I'm saying is we need to start kinda considering that it may have been harder than we think to get that help.
I'm still firmly in JD's corner...Partially because he was so universally revered in NFL circles as a smart football exec and prime GM candidate...and partially because, since the later is true, where the hell else do we turn to if for some reason JD doesn't pan out, back to the Johnson's throwing darts at the board...Seriously, JD has to work out. I like how he manages the financials, his trades are shrewd and he stockpiles draft picks which is/was a staple of the BB/Patriot way. He wanted Gase out and was hesitant to even take the job knowing Gase was the HC, so he knows leadership...But, here's the big catch 22 he has to own early in the Saleh regime, either JD's 2020 draft is turning into below average to poor or Saleh and his coaches can't figure out a way to adapt talented players drafted by JD in 2020 (hand picked by another CS) into their scheme. Whichever way you slice it, JD owns that conundrum. Again, I'm with him but yikes...
We are getting VERY close to having to have a real discussion about JD. I can't think of one actual transaction for a player that's paid dividends so far. The Michael Carter's look good and that's about. Blah blah blah, two drafts... who cares. Why are we the only team that is getting NOTHING from either draft class? Whether it be because they suck or because they are injured, doesn't matter. Especially when the one who is always injured was always going to be an injury risk because of his size. Speaking of Becton... Im pumped to watch CeeDee Lamb tonight.
JD is not the coach of this team. The gets blasted for moving up in the draft to get a lineman and people bitch about not having o-line. I just want to know who these mysterious o-line men are that were there to be had but JD chose not to sign?
There were plenty of OL available during FA at fair prices that JD reportedly didn't even speak with. No two ways about it, JD underestimated how bad the OL is. AVT has also been horrendous in pass protection so far and Becton can't stay on the field and is bad at pass protection when he can. JD absolutely deserves some blame. And yeah, he shouldn't have traded up for AVT. This team needs 2-3 more starters at OL. We should've kept the picks and drafted more OL. We have way too many needs to be trading up. Before anyone claims hindsight analysis I was saying this exact thing during the draft and here we are with the worst OL in the league.
yes but he has drafted three as in 3 lineman... when he should The bold jump out at me because JD was touted as some OL aficionado. Lets see, fact 1- 2020 was the worst OL in NFL or next to the worst. fact 2 - 2021 seems to be on the same course as last years train wreck. He is responsible for this mess (see my caps above) including the CS that seems to be as lost as our new QB.... such is life as a Jet fan...LOL. Speaking of the CS, the Offensive out put (if that is what you want to call it) for 2021 is: 20 pts, 3 games, 724 yards NOW sit down take a deep breath and make a shot of bourbon or something because last years team was - 37 pts., 3 games and 791 yards. And we though AG was a flunky... only the JETS.
NFL teams don't say anything publicly about who they revere and who they don't. JD was a media creation, it was never real.
This subject really is hard for me. There is so much that Douglas has done that I have loved. Starting fresh with Zach Wilson, signing Corey Davis, drafting guys like Michael Carter and Elijah Moore. I have loved the trades he's made. I have loved the contracts he has gotten rid of. It has all been great positive moves for this franchise, in my opinion. But one thing stares at me in the face that is so fuckin aggravating. This offensive line. He has completely failed with the line. I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and let things gel, but through three weeks they have been dogshit.
Joe Douglas has never won a football game in the month of September. 3 years now. Fact. If he looked like a pencil pusher type or God forbid, had googly eyes at his press interview we'd be flying planes and putting up billboards now. The fact that he looks like an every-man offensive linemen type is buying him time and keeping his cred. Cred he doesn't deserve. Remember - Adam Gase the guy we all hate is the guy that brought in Joe Douglas. But for some reason we all believe Gase is an idiot and Douglas is smart
There is no question JD botched the OL in a disastrous way, but I would disagree that AVT trade was a bad one, even in hindsight. We ended up giving up one 3d rounder extra for it and then downgraded another 3d rounder to 4th. We could not have drafted two extra guys, only one. And if we went OL the two better guys are Darrisaw (drafted with our pick) and Jenkins (early second). Neither figures to be a factor this year. In other words, AVT, though hasn't played like a star, still is doing A LOT better than other OLs that would have been taken with our pick. Yes, you would have had an extra 3d rounder, but considering that we would have had a big downgrade from AVT in the first (or early second), then you are counting on a 3d rounder to bail out our OL. No, if anything hindsight actually shows AVT trade was not bad. Where I am mad at JD is thinking Van Rotten and McGovern were the answers at C and RG. This was just terribly poor evaluation on his part. If we had decent upgrades there like Trai Turner, who was there to be had until very late in the process, keeping Elfline, and maybe a few more decent moves, the #1 issue we have right now would be resolved. I still don't understand why Trai is not with the Jets. When he signed with Pitts I thought he got some great contract, but it was only 1 year 3 mil. With as much CAP room as JD had, we could have easily had him way before Pitts did. As far as AVT though, given he is much better than viable alternatives we would have drafted with our 1st or 2nd round (Darrisaw, Jenkins), JD did OK.
We believe Douglas is smart because of the moves he has made and his pedigree. We talked about a complete tear down of this team for years and Douglas has finally done it. We could have done what the Patriots did this year and gone 9-8 but we have tried that multiple times and has not worked. How about we build this team from scratch. That is where we are at starting the youngest roster in the league. Lets be honest it is not the losing that has most of this fan base riled up it is the way that we are losing. I am frustrated just like everyone else but I will give this team more time before calling for anyone's head. This team just needs to show they are competent this year from a player and coaching perspective. If the o-line just plays a little better so we can see these young guys ball a bit. Lets see how this team looks the last quarter of the season. We knew the first quarter was going to be rough.
