The worst season in Jets history was his second season, not first.
He had managed the team an entire year, dealt away talent, AND had a full offseason, terrible FA and draft.
He also threw his full support behind the worst coach we’ve ever had.
Yes he was the architect behind our worst season ever. He earned 2020.

It's certainly fair to criticize JD's picks and be concerned that he's not adding the talent as fast as he might have, but here's where the BIG difference between him and any other Jets GM in recent memory: he has a solid blueprint and he's building towards that. It may be that he's missed on some draft picks and FA signings, but he's also hit on some, most importantly the QB. In addition, he's hired what looks to be like a really knowledgeable and energetic CS that is committed to working with the players.

On balance, I'd say Douglas is doing a good job, with a chance to achieve big things with this team.

He's almost halfway thru his first contract. Time to see some improvement start to develop. I'm willing to give him a mulligan in '21 but not '22. He seems to have a blind spot for spotting talent in his former position. Becton and AVT are his picks. Van Rotten is still snapping the ball and the right side is still a work in progress.

This is JD's OLine. So far, not so good.

To be fair Bryce Huff and Guidry should be considered part of the 2020 draft class as JD signed them as undrafted FAs.

Damn.. That's almost Idzik level ineptitude. JD may talk a good game, but he damn well better start showing something we can see on the field. This might be the last year of JD's honeymoon with the media. Its one thing to be patient but quite another not to see any tangible improvement on the field and on the roster.

Van Rotten may or may not be better at snapping the ball than Mcgovern but he is the right side in your complaint, have you been hitting the special reserve already?
I wouldn't blame you if you had been, this has the potential to be a poor evening.

I agree he seems to have a solid plan - modernize the offense, build the OL, acquire playmakers - but it really doesn't mean much if he can't execute on the plan.

We just have such a low bar on GM competence that even wanting to do the right thing is some revelation to us. We need a GM who knows what to do and does it effectively.

Thought Van Rotten was the Center but hey, not being perfect has its advantages sometimes.. :)

As a veteran of many of these NE/NJ massacres, I'm just interested in seeing a competitive game. I have a feeling we're gonna get smoked again anyway. Believe it or not, I went out and bought an official #2 Zach home green jersey! Yay!

Either way, win or lose I have the special reserve on Standby. :)

I think Douglas has only the vaguest of clues as to how to accomplish what he wants to accomplish. The draft of Wilson without a proper plan to get him on the field safely and effectively was the moment that I first really started to doubt him. The trade up for AVT sealed the idea that he was not competent to manage this build.

You need to get your QB on the field after proper preparation and planning. Best case if you fail that is Matthew Stafford-land where the guy somehow survives and develops but never with enough talent around him to succeed. Worst case has been on the field for us multiple times in the last couple of decades.

The trade up was like spitting into the wind and with the Jets the winds are always in your face at gale force.

I’m not going to defend JD but at what point do we let the CS do their jobs and start developing these players? We have rookie players with a rookie CS, they need a little time to get something done no?

The point is not about what the CS does. The point is about what they have to work with and what constraints they operate under.

I agree that Wilson would've been better off sitting to begin the season as the OL went through growing pains.

I disagree with the trade up for AVT being a bad move. When you have the number of picks we did, sacrificing a few picks to get a desired player is not the end of the world. It was done without giving up a 1st or 2nd rounder.

JD fckd up by not signing a legitimate VET QB on this roster during the offseason. Wilson should not be starting this year but having a clipboard in his hand learning how the position is played. Saleh and LeFleur own this fuck up too. Zach should have been benched today but they couldn't because they didn't trust the immortal Mike White. Rookie CS showing their expertise.

How many professional football players do the jets have on the roster right now?

When you are a bottom-feeding team like the Jets you cannot afford to trade up for sure things.

First of all, there is no such thing as a sure thing in the NFL.

Secondly, even if you hit on that guy you are short all over the field and you really needed to spend those three picks trying to get 3 professional football players instead of a sure thing.

The trade up was amateur hour and it was part of an amateur hour procession that has ruined the Jets.

And it only gets worse from here.

And, Wilson should have been benched, at least for a series here and there after a bad throw, even if the only other option was Mike White.

Putting him out there over and over again just lets him reinforce bad habits instead of spending a series thinking about why he was on the bench.

I still don't understand why, after 30 years of drafting filth, we still can't scout for shit.

I can't know their thinking, but I believe they feel that with Zach's learning ability it's better for him to be out there and learning first hand, and they're banking on him being able to do that. I think he will, but it's a big gamble. FWIW, as the game went on, Zach dialed it back and played within himself and what the defense was giving him, so I cautiously optimistic we'll see improvement next week.
