In just his first game, Wilson showed a refreshing amount of heart and resilience after being thrown around like a rag doll in the first half. He is not only talented, but he has a healthy competitive spirit you want and need in a QB.

It remains to be seen if the Jets organization will suck the positive spirit out of him, like it has done to so many promising players. Nurturing and developing players has not exactly been their strength during this decade long playoff drought.

If it was Darnold instead of Wilson today, he would have stayed in the locker room after the first half or phoned it in early in the 3rd qtr. If Douglas needed to hit on anyone in the draft, it was Wilson. Over time, you can fix units like the OL or the secondary, but finding a talented QB with leadership qualities is a much taller task. Much better to have Wilson look good and the OL look bad than the other way around.

I wanted whatever quarterback we drafted on the bench given the state of the roster. That has no bearing on my thoughts now as they haven't changed.

"That's how it is" isn't a good answer. That's why a lot of quarterbacks don't develop. Sitting a quarterback with a bad roster or a guy being a raw talent in general is all the more reason to let them learn and get acclimated. Teams aren't required to follow the trend of the league.

It was the smart decision to buck the trend and the Jets just had to run him out there with a trash roster.

I agree and been saying Wilson should not have started out the gate but it's too late to go back now

Which you can't do because you are rebuilding and installing a new scheme.

That’s what I thought I saw too. I think a lot of the improvement after the becton injury was simply Moses coming in.

That doesn’t work when you can’t run though.

I expected some growing pains for the OL. The question is does the unit get better as the season progresses? If not, then we're in serious trouble.

The Jets have to figure that out. If they can't run the ball effectively this year they're going to get Wilson killed.

This is one of the biggest reasons you install a new offense with a vet QB. Wilson's head is still spinning from play to play and having to adjust for offensive failures as well as the defense is 10x too much of a load for a rookie QB.

There’s some things they could have done. Let’s see what next week looks like with crowder back.

By your logic I guess bringing on Adam Gase was a good use of the term “revamping the coaching staff”.
Revamping has to mean more than just turnover, or else what’s the point?

I mean I'll agree that Wilson kept popping back up every time he got smoked and fought until the very end. But let's not act like Darnold didn't take an absolute beating and mostly do the same. I have higher hopes for Wilson and it's only game one. But it's kind of silly to act like Darnold wasn't out there firing as well every week.

It becomes more of a personal character attack than anything on Darnold.

Not a bad idea to consider moving Becton to the right side.

People are skeptical of Fant i don't know why. He's good, i like him. Becton has to lose some fucking weight

Edit: I do think becton will be better than fant but he has to change something for that to happen

Darnold took a beating here for 3 years with very little organization support to change that.
Now you gonna pretend he can’t take a hit? Please.

You have a valid point - is Wilson going to make a difference this season over some journeyman QB? No he isn’t, and with the O line play we saw today I would agree you may be putting his development at risk by playing him with this roster. But the fact is playing him isn’t just a football decision - it’s a business decision and that’s part of the equation in the modern game.

What's the business decision? That all of us will be more in tune with watching him get slaughtered every week because there's some hope?

I'm not saying you're wrong, but that sets a franchise back if you believe that's the case. But anything to grab the low hanging fruit of profit for Woody + co. I suppose.
