Rather than reanimate every thread I was a part of in the last week, thought I'd just post a new one and man up. You guys should be proud, and excited. Mangini is a helluva coach, and he should be yours for a long time. I was sitting at that game yesterday, watching the Jet offense, and saying "how are they doing it?" They don't muscle you, they don't bulldoze you, but before you know it Chad is completing another five yarder on third and three, amazing. And I'm very envious watching a team that makes its living going on long drives, play after play, without making a mistake to derail the drive. Reminds me a little of the Gannon-era Raiders in that regard. I don't think you have the personnel yet to really compete with the upper echelon of the league, but a coach like Mangini will give you a fighting chance every week. And that's a great way to start. As for the game itself, It was really weird for me to be at a Raider-Jet game in NJ when the Jets are playoff bound and the Raiders are prepping for the draft. I've been to a bunch of Raider-Jet games, and usually the teams are on equal footing (like last year), or the Raiders are the better team. Most Jet fans were pretty cool, and very intense because the stakes were much higher for you guys (although we did win the Brady Quinn sweepstakes!). Like some of you, I too was shocked at how many fans left with minutes left in the game. Wouldn't you want to stick around and celebrate? Kinda weird. I also have to point out that you guys have many more face painters than you'd care to admit to. Not on Oakland's level, but not too shabby! Anyway, congrats and best of luck next week. If anyone wants to call me on anything I've said in the last couple of days, fire away. And I await my new sig, written by Yisman, to use for the month of January...
Thanks for being classy and manning up to the bet! Do you think Quinn is the best possible pick for your team based on the current draft class?
Thanks for the the props and class... I guess congrats on being able to get Quinn!!! It's gotta help make the season a little easier to swallow
I think Brady Quinn should hire Archie Manning as his agent and after Oakland drafts him #1, insist on a trade to Miami.
They are in a tough spot.....i would draft quinn....there has also been talk about them tryin 2 get michael vick......should be intresting, but what the raiders must do is get rid of those overpriced whiny WR.....just eat the salaries...
Seriously, Raiders have too many holes to fill. I will look for a trader. Too many teams need a QB. You guys can get a lot, I mean realy a lot for No. 1 pick.
He's kind of hard to pass on... I'm mean they can't go into next season with Aaron Brooks and god knows who else... I don't know what the QB class looks like this year... Is there a QB that could fall to the 2nd ie. (Brees or Kellen)?
I'm not sure. I certainly won't complain if they get Quinn but once Mel Kiper starts with his routine I'll probably change my mind 50 times. I could make a good argument for Adrian Peterson if he's as good as advertised. Just in the AFC West, look at how San Diego built that team. They had nothing, no offensive line, no QB, when they took Tomlinson. But they built the team around him and he has made their line look even better than it is, he's made the QB's job a lot easier, etc. Same thing with Larry Johnson in Kansas City. A Raider offseason is never boring, and this one should be a doozy...
Agreed. It's a bad feeling to watch your team and not feel secure about that position. And I haven't felt secure about QB since Gannon retired. If I'm being really greedy, I can envision a trade-down scenario where they pick up Adrian Peterson and Troy Smith, but I don't see that happening. I also expect Smith's stock to rise when people really look at his career, so he might not be available in the late first or early second as some are projecting. Having said all that, I think Quinn would be a good pick...
