But it aint young either. I'm all for Ertz as even with where he's at in his career, he'd be an immediate upgrade at TE for us.
We have so many draft picks amassed that throwing in the 6th rounder isn't super meaningful as far as our roster is concerned. Getting a 4th round pick for a guy who is on the last year of his rookie contract and hasn't done squat in 2 years is a smart long term move. Even if he has a rebound break out season this year, you either have to pay up for a guy who's only performed in a contract year, or let him walk. Much better to get the assets while you can.
After seeing all these draft picks for next year I hope we don't do too well this year. A good draft with all these picks could set up the franchise up for years!
Spot on. JD has shown to be really pragmatic with roster moves. If he can hit on a good % of our draft picks next year we have a shot to be a really talented, young team.
I don't think we're doing well enough for it to matter tbh. I don't want terrible picking top 3 either though. A nice 5 or 6 wins and top 10 would suggest they are doing something right. Seattle sucking would be nice though!
and in a reverse of an earlier mantra 'suck for Sam', Sam to suck will also greatly help us out in the draft.
To be honest I'm less concerned with this. I don't expect them to win that many regardless of what Darnold does but neither will they seriously threaten to be pick #1 or 2 unless CMC goes down. As it's a second round pick it's not a huge difference whether its pick 3 or pick 10 I suspect. Seattle sucking would be huge though. I don't think Sam will suck really, he'll be better than he was last year but not someone who will threaten to become an above average starter.
Even if Seattle isn't bad but just a little down this year, maybe 8-9 wins. That would be huge for us as having a top 10 and another top 15-20 pick would help this roster out a ton.
Agreed that throwing 6th rounder while getting 4th back is not super meaningful, but if he does have a break out season, as you described, it will be a bit of a shame. He did show a lot of promise in his rookie year. With all that said, I just think the chances of that are very low. so, getting the 4th pick now is a very shrewd move. Vikings took a gamble here to be sure, which I don't think will pay off, while it gives the Jets yet another decent asset.
He just got cut from the New Orleans Saints. And the 2022 4th rounder we got from Minnesota in that trade became pick #117 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft which we used on Micheal Clemons!! The 6th round pick we gave them turned into some guy named Vederian Lowe (OT from Illinois) who I've never heard of.
This guy fell off a table....wow. He was looking like the next Johnny Mitchell and actually became Johnny Mitchell!!
What's the story with Herndon? Just get some money and couldn't be bothered anymore? That first year he had with us was really good, it's just bemusing to see how a player can fall off with more experience unless the just can't be arsed. Sent from my M2007J20CG using Tapatalk
