I doubt that JD would trade them for a veteran. He may use as couple of them to get the stud DE we want.

Douglass clearly likes to have a war chest of draft capital. But since you only have so many individual players it doesn't make sense to throw tons of bodies and a finite number of roster spots. Your alternatives are: (1) Trade up in draft (2) Package lower picks in trades for higher picks. (3) Get higher value in future vs current draft. We did see (1) happen this year with the AVT trade but I see that as the exception rather than the rule. In the Herndon trade we saw (2), ending up with the same number of total draft picks but with a much more valuable 4th rounder in exchange for Herndon and 6th rounder. Late round picks are important but not if you likely aren't going to have enough roster spots. In the Darnold we saw (3), where I don't think we would have gotten nearly that level of compensation if we had demanded it in be in the 2021 draft. Obviously these are one off examples but I'm seeing a trend toward (2) and (3). Building through the draft and accumulating draft capital is a long term winning strategy in the NFL. Obviously you still need to scout well and make the right choices with those picks but as Jets fans we know what it's like to have the cupboard bare and it's not great. Considering the number of picks we've made in the past two drafts and still having a brimming warchest of picks going forward shows Douglas understands how to play the game.

Updated for Flacco trade. As I understand it, it's a 6th that could become a 5th if he meets a playing time threshold.
It sucks because we'll likely have a pair of pretty bad ass picks but the trade down options will be really limited because these QBs all look like overrated crap.
Maybe, but there’s always a chance. Teams have gone up to take the 1st QB at a non-#1 pick before… Trubisky for example

quite fitting for the jets - 2 really high first rounders and not one top 10 QB. you can't make this shit up.
The Seattle pick, both Carolina picks, and the Minnesota pick all improved after this week. Seattle and Carolina have a very decent shot to lose out the rest of the season. Hope for Houston, Chicago, Detroit, and NYG wins these last two weeks. Jacksonville is a lost cause, just assume they get 1st overall again.
