TE's are among the earliest retirees as a group in the NFL, with only RB's approaching their short lifespans. No position comes on faster or leaves earlier. This makes sense when you realize they're covered by strong safeties, ILB's and WLB's, all positions that make hitting hard part of their trade. Ertz has always been a bit crunchy and it would be no surprise if 2021 is his last season. On the Herndon trade: as long as the Jets got a pick or two for him it was a good deal. Without the Jets hype machine nobody would know Herndon existed.
Awesome rookie season and 3 TDs during final 3 games last year. My turn to ask questions. Who was Herndon surrounded by? HC? OC? QBs? RBs? WRs? LG? RT? Yeah. Right. He really had a chance.
Herndon was traded by a CS that seems competent on the offensive side of the ball. If they didn't believe In Herndon, then, It's a no brainer to move him. Now, what did we actually get for the kid? Also.. Ertz Is not worth a 2nd. Why would anyone think that was a smart football decision at this point In his career? Yikes.
I don't disagree at all. I still think he'd be a massive upgrade at TE for us with how that group currently looks. Could also mean they may try to claim Jacob Hollister off of waivers but I don't think this is how we enter the season at TE.
Think about It though.. If our CURRENT coaching staff are the ones that was okay with him being shipped out, he was buried on the depth chart.. The past really doesn't matter all that much now does It? Considering the CURRENT coaching staff are the ones saying he Isn't worth keeping. I mean.. Seriously think about It.
All the more reason for them to get rid of the jerseys or, at the very least, the new logo, as soon as they are able to.
Well hopefully we get a 4th round pick in return for Chris Herndon. I'll be upset if it's anything less than a 5th. And hopefully we package picks for a reliable TE for Zach Wilson too because right now he has nothingness.
I wouldn't assume we got anything more than a 5th for a player who hasn't been good in three years and has no contract next year.
It's cut time guys. Draft picks aren't thrown around like a bunch of degenerates at 4am trying to cover their weeklong losses. All the guys being moved right now are for 6th/7th round picks with conditions because they just wanted to exclusive rights rather than fight for them in FA/waivers .
I would imagine either what they got for Herndon exceeded what they thought he would get, or they have eyes on one of the TE's that was waived. I cant imagine they'd want to get rid of someone at an already thin position.
