It depends on his recovery time. I like Carl Lawson a lot because his entire existence is football, and I think he's determined enough to come back early if his body allows. But he's had 3 major soft tissue injuries in his legs and this one happened before he was able to contribute during meaningful snaps. The legs are a bad place to get injured when the main part of your job is supporting the weight of gigantic fat guys. He's on a 3 year contract where one year is an option and he's already down 1 year plus whatever rehab is going to affect 2022. Technically, the contract hasn't worked out. That's not to say Carl Lawson doesn't have a future with the Jets. He clearly likes the team and he was on a mission. But at 15m per, that third year is an albatross. I would hope the Jets had advanced in 2023 enough that his contract weighed against risk no longer makes sense and they void that 3rd year. However they could always bring him back on a prove it deal to see if he can make it through the season productive and healthy.
It is possible Lawson never plays meaningful snaps for the Jets. Achilles is a long recovery. He might miss all of camp next year, possibly even a couple games. Then it takes him half the season to get up to full speed. The Jets would certainly opt out of his contract after the season. Lawson gets $30 mil guaranteed for a half season of work
At this point there's nothing we can do to change the circumstances, but if Lawson takes that approach - which I doubt - I wouldn't want him on the team.
It's like you're not even trying at this point. Teenagers could troll better than that. You're not a teenager are you?
I am not trolling. Yes Lawson is a little cheaper but he is signed to replace the void from trading Williams.
they don't even play the same position so that makes no sense. JD traded williams away because we also had Q who was younger and cheaper and played the same position, and because he knew he needed flexibility in the roster for a new regime. He knew gase was a lame duck coach and wasn't going to last long. He also didn't feel leo was worth his asking price so might as well trade him instead of letting him walk. Lawson was signed because we switched schemes and needed a 4-3 DE rusher. Had we still been a 3-4 we wouldn't have signed lawson as he's not a scheme fit.
Williams could play end in a 4-3. Our mistake with Leonard Williams was we took a probowl end and tried to convert him to a middle anchor in the 3-4. This is why he gained so much weight - he was likely told to gain the weight. That experiment failed so instead of moving him back outside we gave him away to the Giants who said, "you wanna give us a probowl DE for cheap - okay". Losing Williams was a fumble by JD, Greg Williams/Gase, and the whole organization.
No, the packers 2nd and 3rd string are better than some teams 1sts is nonsense. I was gonna let that one slide but since your ranting...
it's the opposite. wiilliams is a DT in a 4-3 but a DE in a 3-4. we had him at DE since we were a 3-4. he was too small to be a NT for that system. the giants traded for him and they were running a 3-4 at the time and he played DE. then in 2020 they got a new staff and ran a base 3-3-5 and he moved back to mostly playing DT but with 5 down lineman in a sense. in our defense now he'd be playing the same position as Q. Williams was 302 at the combine. he's listed anywhere form 291-302. in out system DEs are typically 270 or less and faster. DTs are around 300. lawson is 265 for example. williams would have had to drop 20-30 lbs and gotten much faster to be a DE in our defense now. the giants just paid out 20 mil to a guy who has 29 sacks in 7 years because he had 11.5 in a contract year despite having 18.5 the previous 6 years total. lots of his sacks were coverage sacks. the giants secondary is really good. williams wasn't worth the money he wanted.
Lawson is essentially a 3-4 OLB. He was brought here to be the Leo and an edge rusher. Very different from Willams I agree. But Williams wouldn't be playing the same position as Q. He would be the 5 technique instead of Rankins, while providing much more versatility and subpackage pass rush ability than Rankins. He'd fit perfectly. Williams literally played every single position on the DL here. Every single technique. His versatility is his biggest asset. JD f'd that up. We got Ashtyn Davis and Michael Carter the CB in return. Safe to say the Giants won that trade.
Williams would line up at the 5 technique as there isn’t one in a 4-3. No, Lawson was not essentially a 3-4 OLB bc we are a 4-3 team.
There absolutely is a 5 tech in the 4-3 Under. And the Leo position is essentially a 3-4 OLB. The 4-3 Under looks very much like the 3-4, I think a lot of people are missing that and equating it to a traditional 4-3. It’s very different.
