I know there are some out there that think out beat writers have it out for the team, or certain few beat writers at least. I want to see how that contrasts with the takes of media members who really seem to have it out for the Jets. Candidate 1: Mike Lombardi His early resume is great, but he got assimilated into the Patriots Way Borg and whenever he gets the chance to talk Jets, he stops sweating bacon grease and starts seating smug, and gets this smarmy look on his face that belongs under a steamroller. He's also the tampering architect of the Moss to Patriots heist. Candidate 2: Bill Simmons Another guy dripping with smug chowder, I won't bother going into details because fuck him and I hope a piano drops on his head. Candidate 3: Steve Serby Serby's Jets-hating tenure goes way back to being slammed into a locker by Richard Todd for needling him constantly about his starting job. I think Serby has a really to write a positive Jets article once every 7 or 8 articles so nobody can accuse him of only writing hit pieces. When you read a Serby Jets hit piece, it reads like it was written by a guy that is really enjoying his job. He's not a Jets beat writer, hence why he's on the list. New Entry: Colin Cowherd Ah yes, the Darnold honeymoon of Cowherd leg-humping the dumb Jets for drafting An is over, and now the Jets are his moral enemy because they made him (in his mind) look like a moron. So now he is crusading against the smart Jets because it's not possible that he was wrong. He's a dark horse candidate to take number one in a year or so. I know I missed more. Who are your top Jets haters in the media?
No, actually people do things that have nothing to do with you. You might consider that sometime. It was in response to the many posters that are constantly complaining about the beat writers.
I dont know if these writers truly hate the Jets. Its just their publishers and bosses know that articles that antagonize and talk shit about the Jets get the most traffic and engagement. I just think they do too much of it, there is always a remark that these guys shitting on something. This includes Cimini and the old local guys
Oh yeah! He's a creeper but he's definitely a Jets hater. I think it was around the time that Sports Night in America started so I'm going to blame it on the Patriots and Rodney Harrison. Also some virtually deceased Jets Haters that I want to pay fake tribute to. Sean Salisbury Manish Mehta Heath Evans NEVER FORGET NEVER FORGETTING
While I do agree that most of Cowherd's current crusade against the Jets (and Wilson) is Darnold-related, I'll defend him a tiny bit and point out that he is usually complimentary of Joe Douglas any time he's talking about the front office, and I've never gotten the feeling he's down on Saleh. He just seems to be in wait and see mode, which we all should be, if we're being fair, since it remains to be seen if most of JD's big moves will even pan out. Add Jason La Canfora to the list. Baltimore homerism aside, he has his share of biases, even if subtle. Couldn't help but notice that he's been occasionally going out of his way to retweet practice report tweets of Wilson interceptions, yet haven't seen too many retweets for the other rookie QB's.
Rodney Harrison for sure. There's some other dickheads around there. Mark Schlereth always gives those vibes during broadcasts too although he beats around the bush about it. It's tough to decipher whose a hater at this point though because we've been bad for so long that most criticism has been warranted.
I forgot about LaCanfora because he is one of the most forgettable human beings on earth, but yes I've seen him take shots over the years. I think it may have been that he and Lombardi became toad-shaped butt buddies during their time together at NFLN.
Good list and suggestions. I noticed Charlie Casserly been hating on the Jets since his friend got fired
To me they are just cheap entertainment. Its funny how some some fans here consistently come to their defense because "that is what they get paid to do" and "been in the business for a long time", as it is justification for really knowing football talent. I take the word of folks like Simms, Warner, Romo, Bart Scott, Keshawn and a slew of other ex football players who have been there doing it against the best up front and personal as opposed to a walkie talkie like Colin who fancies himself an expert on all things. They get paid to talk or write, to sale a service and get sponsors, that is about it. Like in politics where so much is said and written about nothing just to get votes.
Interesting. I always got that vibe when Rich Gannon did Jet games. I know there was once a heated rivalry between the Raiders and Jets, but some of his commentary during games almost sounded personal. He was especially fond of criticizing the decision making of our QB play.......though I wouldn't hold that against him as we all know it's been mostly dreadful.
I've gotten that vibe from Gannon a few times as well. He was the golden boy of Raider nation at one point and there was no team that Al Davis hated more than the Jets. I swear he had some kind of deal with Tagliabue to put the Jets on their schedule as close to every season as possible.
Always in Oakland too. Yes - Schlereth does the games at times when the Jets are on Fox. Gannon for sure and he's an awful announcer regardless of the fact he hates the Jets.
$0.02: Add Dan “Please Hit Mute” Dierdorf to that list. Although, now that I think about it, he might just be so shitty at commentary that shitting on the Jets during the game is from unintentional incontinence.
what happened to that guy? did he retire or get fired? seems like I haven't heard him call a game in awhile
Chris Collingsworth used to hate the Jets too. He was unmerciful. I think I remember hearing him say some good things about Zach and the Jets this offseason however.
