I was excited till I heard the tail end of the clip ‘I’ve watched his first preseason game and three or four other plays’ COME ON MAN
Very good point on Phillips, I think he will play End in some of the formations. JFM, kind of like Phillips, is interesting in that he’s more of a DE/DT hybrid. I’ve been meaning to write up an observations post about what alignments we were running agains the Giants, and what personnel we were using for the positions. The Lawson injury took that wind out of my sails, but if I have time today will do. JFM on the 4-3 Under (which is essentially a 3-4), was playing the 3 tech (DT) on the weak side. Which is Quinnens role once he’s back. On Nickel D (which will be our primary D) he played DE on that 4 man front, same with the 4-3 Over. On sub package pass rushing D, like 3rd and Long, he kicked back in to DT a la Justin Tuck. JFM’s role won’t change, and it will be an important one. The challenge now is we just don’t have anyone that can fill Lawsons shoes as the Leo in the Under, or primary pass rusher and edge setter in the other formations. Phillips can pick up slack in some formations, as well provide depth for JFM, but definitely not a Leo. I think the combo of Huff and Phillips will pick up the different roles Lawson was filling, but it’s a massive loss. We lost the most impactful player on this D, and it will have to be substitute by committee.
I’ve always had high hopes for Kyle Phillips. Former 4 star from UT. I think if healthy, he will be a good rotational guy with JFM, and Vinny Curry at LDE (strong side). Here is a good little article. He needs to stay healthy https://www.ganggreennation.com/2019/6/17/18659583/scouting-jets-udfa-kyle-phillips
I know the Jets are on the right track when Steve Serby writes half a dozen hit pieces on them before the season even starts. I don't know that he wrote that many in the last 3 seasons combined. Just one of those opportunistic sleazeballs that only show up when things are going good.
It doesn't hurt my feelings either, but it isn't a great look to call somebody homo even if it is just for the rhyme, your reply of 15 years ago just makes it a different time, say 30 years and you could call anybody anything you wanted, doesn't make it good and certainly not funny, doubling down with shitty comments isn't great either. It's 2021
That's the thing with Sam, and the reason why he was so highly rated. People could see he really has some high end ability. The problem is his faults are numerous, and have been amplified over the years instead of minimized. Romo played the position very successfully in NFL for a while, and his opinion does carry some weight. While it is not an indicator of success, the fact he saw Zach play and sees high end talent, even if he has seen the same in Sam, is not a bad thing.
The Gregg Knapp tragedy combined with Lawson's injury have combined to kick a large dent in my optimism and enthusiasm for the coming year. I am just hoping we can make it through today's game with no more injuries.
Of course. You are talking about a guy who was banging Jessica Simpson on the beach in Caribbean while everyone else was preparing for a play-off game. 'Nuff said.
I understand what you mean even if I think losing Lawson is a bad break for the Jets. Some posters believe the DL will be dominant this season. If they aren’t, a sub group will contend that it’s only because we lost Lawson. They might even have a good case, for example, if the Seahawks lost Wilson there’d be an argument for explaining why the WR group underperformed. This would happen on most sports message boards in those circumstances. Whether it’s positioned as an excuse to back up earlier claims or a well thought out “what if” scenario is where it becomes an interesting post or a shit post. Regardless, it won’t change the facts regarding what actually happened. If that’s all that one is interested in then there’s no reason to engage in that discussion with that poster to begin with. Some people interpret others disagreeing with their point of view as criticism. That’s understandable - many people prefer to be told that they’re right, not wrong. Being “too realistic” implies that one believes their viewpoint is the correct one compared to the other “unrealistic” viewpoint. Basically, people on a message board disagree. Ideally one would defend their viewpoint instead of acting like a martyr. It’s much more interesting that way.
We live in a soft soft world now. It's a sad sight to see. The phrase "Tony Homo" has long lived in the NFL world. From multiple slip ups from anchors on TV, to a running nickname that has been going for 15 years. You're right, it is 2021. And we live in a fuckin bubble now. I should have been more mindful
Amen! I've "come back down to earth" on my expectations. I had been engaging in optimism - a very foreign feeling as a Jets fan - thinking they might grab 8-9 wins if everything went well, but now, I'm back to 5-6 wins and hoping they play well in the losses and that Zach progresses towards the FQB I think he can be. As for tonight, playing against GB's 2's, I hope they can keep it close, but will start getting those SOJs vibe if they don't. If that seems like a contradiction to the first part of my post, keep in mind that the "SOJ vibe" lurks just beneath the surface of any Jets fan who has followed them for 20 years or more, just waiting to emerge at the first sign of trouble.
