Becton was bad in pass protection all last season, though. He was also bad in pass protection in college. Being concerned is the only logical stance.
He was also going up against Preston and Za'Darius Smith all day. Za'Darius was top 5 in sacks last year at 12.5 so it's not like he was going up against a bunch of scrubs.
Deep Breath! We are still training camp. We knew O-line was going to take time. I admit it the reports on Becton are not sounding the greatest but he played well in the pre-season game and if we get the run game going nd Becton gets to steam roll you a few times that pass rush will not be as fierce.
Jets Twitter...it's pandemonium out here right now lol you would think the Jets will never win another game after this practice
Before this practice all we heard was what a great matchup for Becton Smith was. Now that Smith smoked him we have excuses coming out for Becton.
Who's making excuses? I'm just pointing out that both the guys he went against today are good to very good pass rushers. Becton clearly looked bad today.
The Twitteverse is a binary world. People think the character limit means there’s no room for nuance and being measured.
A lot of people are making excuses for Becton, not you. I just saw this exact same thing happen with Darnold. We make endless excuses as fans because we want them to be good when there are a ton of legitimate red flags.
Or Carolina's. We should start having odds on when Sam is benched because we already know what he looks like behind a weak o-line.
I'm with you. Mekhi has struggled most of the offseason but he's still a 22 year old young man that's trying to figure it out. I wanna see how he holds up when it's real. If he's still struggling this much halfway through the year then I'll be closer to hitting the panic button on him.
I’m a wait until he’s beat in a regular season game before getting concerned. He’s not a rookie; he has a bit of a resume. That should buy him the benefit of the doubt at least until opening day.
