The Jets signed Naggar as an undrafted free agent in May out of SMU. He made one of his two attempted field goals in Saturday’s exhibition matchup with the Giants. Naggar sent a 30-yarder through the uprights but missed from 53-yards out.

After waiving Naggar, the Jets now have fellow undrafted free agent Matt Ammendola as their only kicker. He hit an extra point in the third quarter and sent his one kickoff for a touchback on Saturday.
Hopefully a K will shake loose after the teams make their cuts. I don't know much about Ammendola other than he made a extra point vs. Giants.

The Blame is not 100 percent Mac it was reported that both Gase and MAC did not want to pay Myers. The only difference is that after week 1 Gase started bitching about why did we let Myers go and stated he wanted to keep him. So very typical Gase he does something stupid, refuses to take responsibility, lies about it and then blames others.

Myers wanted 3.5m as well didn't he?

Plus his brilliant season with us was an outlier, he wasn't as good last year but of course, he didn't get as many attempts due to a great QB.

I really don't like FGs. I much prefer a team have the mindset of scoring TDs, not "Let's just get inside the 30 and call it good". But FGs are a "necessary evil", and a key part of any offense, whether I like it or not. With that in mind, how does it not make sense to spend money to get a reliable kicker? There are some games where the only points scored are FG, so why would a team go cheap on that aspect of the game?

I suspect this is part of the mentality of the "defense wins championships", where things like QBs, skill players, and certainly kickers, are afterthoughts. But even there, it's ignorant because if you believe in a philosophy of trying to hold the other team's scoring down to the lowest level, you're almost certainly going to see your games decided by FGs.

IDK if Ammendola is any good, but whoever they get, I hope they get the best they can and not base it on money.

No particular view on the decisions. I've watched the game against The Giants and wasn't convinced by any kicker in it.

I do think good place kickers are under valued for their contribution in general. They are rarely drafted and good ones rarely paid what they are worth. I would lay out good money for an elite kicker and definately trade for that level of quality.

Hah? He only made 100% of his FG kicks last year, 24 total, including a high of 61 yarder, and 93% of extra points. Yes, he is worth several mil, but darn it, it's worth every penny if you get 90% of your FGs and XPT as automatic. We've struggled at the position since losing him, with the latest audition of 76% College kicker Ammendola. Mac fucked up when he didn't secure Myers, there is no debate here, as simple as that.

The kicking situation is pretty much a travesty at this point unless we pull something out of our ass.

Gostkowski was awful last year but he should at least be in camp with us for a tryout.

At the time of him asking for 3.5m his season was an outlier.
Fair enough I should have said underused because of Wilson rather than not as good, a lower points total not an indication of his chance percentage.

I think if you look in his thread there was a lot of people unsure of paying him 3.5m

I wanted him to stay but I may have thought 3.5m was a lot at the time as well.

    Such is life.

I think he's going to see what Ammendola can do for a week while waiting on a real kicker to hit the waiver wire on September 1st

Ammendola is supposed to have a big leg. It'd be nice to have a kicker that can burry every KO deep into the EZ. Keep the other 10 on the sidelines while Amm goes out there alone and bangs one thru the uprights from 75 yards out! Saleh would probably get flagged for taunting

I am going to take the approach that a kicker really matters on a young team. We will need to cash in on scoring opportunities including field goals. When you come away with nothing, it can be very demoralizing to a team.

Kicking game is always Plan B. I'd like to see a game played like we used to as kids....you score or turn the ball over on downs. No punting, no kicking!

I was really looking forward to hearing them chant his name at the games after a game winning kick.

It's amazing how bad a GM Mac was. Like NFL teams won't even give him a paper pusher job.
