I really don't know how you can say all of this considering it was very clear that most teams felt Wilson was the 2nd best QB in the draft. There was clearly a reason Fields fell so far. I think it's time to move on from this take.
FWIW I too believe (know, really) that we paid a very high price for Zach so he has to perform at the top make it a decent NYJ deal. In the most simple terms we could have traded the #2 pick to the Broncos and received Lock and 2022 #1 and 2023 #1. Then we could have taken AVT with the #9 pick and kept those 2 third round picks. Therefore Zach's cost is a 2022 1st rounder, a 2023 1sr rounder, two 2021 3rd round picks, and Drew Lock. We would still have grabbed everything else we got via free agency and draft.
I see your point and agree with the sentiment, but dont agree with it all. There was never any talk about a potential Bronco trade, although if we were open to trading there could have been? We could have swapped with the eagles for their # 2,3 last draft (picks 38 and 70), and 1,2 in 2021. That would have been proper rebuilding. Our current roster would be more promising, and next years draft over the moon. With that swap we could have grabbed a top QB this draft or next draft, and still loaded up on top rookie talent. AVT wasn't worth pick 9, and barely worth pick 14. At least going into the draft he was certainly not worth pick 14, 66, & 86. He is a slightly above average guard, and not rated much ahead of guys that went in the 3rd round. The Vikings got Davis, a slightly lower rated guard, with our pick 86.
Ya--good points all--I know we are on the same page but not totally aligned. Even being on the same page is a rarity on this topic.
@legler82 @bicketybam @REVISion @Noam @ouchy Guys. I say let's lock this thread, start a new thread about Zach and his Training Camp performance and start a new TC thread for regular updates, twits etc. Cool?
Damn dude--right after I post something then you call to lock the thread? lol--glad u are feeling good enough to lock a thread.
So do you think that the Denver front office would have traded all that massive amount of capital because they are a bunch of morons or they did their homework and though in earnest they were targeting their ideal new FQB.? I say the later. So to me it was not a high price to pay, not at all, win or loose. The chance is rarely there, instead, if Wilson hits, we would have lost the chance of a lifetime to get him under a rookie contract, and fuck around with Luck till we draft the next potential QB with a lower pick. Both Denver and SF for starters wanted to trade up with the Jets. Why do you think that is? You don't pass a chance you believe in, specially for a position of such critical need. Chance well worth it.
\\ Lol. We can keep things as is if you guys want. Mine was just a suggestion. Let me hear what others say.
And if Grandma had balls she'd be Grandpa. But thanks for the recap. P.S. I know I'm reusing the same gif but it fits
Just heard that the Giants will not be playing their starters. So we may end up looking better than we are. On the other end, if we suck against their back ups that will be caused for concern. Talk about a loose loose situation LOL
They might change their mind when our 1st string defense mauls the shit out of them. That will be fun to watch.
Let it be known to everyone on TGG. Anything good the offense accomplishes against the Giants means nothing. NOTHING!
Do not doubt our God given right and ability to make a mountain out of a mole hill! The first incompletion will deserve it's own thread...
I wasn't as high on Fields. Loved his athleticism but he struck me as a one read QB. And he took a ton of sacks....hard time reading defenses. That always scared me. And then it came out that he had epilepsy. That was strike 3 for me. Obviously I'm no expert. Let's see if he can beat out Dalton for the starting job in Chicago.
