Thanks for linking that article. It's hilarious. Guy makes two passes, over on a a free play and the other on 7v7, and he's "the truth". It really goes to show how the media can shape s perspective. This was in USA Today. So if you haven't been following Jags camp (like 99% on the football works), you'd think that he's been an absolute stud.

Wilson deserves criticism but concern? I don't think so. It's so early on the process and like other players pointed out, there's a thousand moving parts to this.

Anyone who doesn't have any concerns about Wilson at this point isn't being realistic, just like anyone who is already convinced he will fail is. He's just where you would expect him to be. Just where all the future busts over the years were, just where the future starters were, as well as all the future HoFers were - give or take a little bit in each case. Which one Wilson is going to be no one knows yet. you can make a case for anything and the media narrative of Jets #2 overall QB pick struggles is just too predictable and obvious that it is almost an automatic response.

But that's my question, why would someone have concerns about Wilson right now? I'm genuinely asking. He's in week 2 of training camp and just turned 22 years old. How is him "struggling" a concern?

    I don't get it. I really don't.

If this was year 2 or year 3, then yeah, I'd be concerned. He's literally been practicing for two weeks. Two. How does anything he does concern you at this stage?

If you had legitimate concerms that he wasnt the guy pre-draft he's hardly done much to convince you that you were wrong either though. There were plenty on here that did and in the wider media.

If you want to wait 2 or 3 years to be concerned that's down to you. I doubt many will give him anything like that time. He'll get the same sort of honeymoon Darnold got. That he will struggle in games is expected, but signs of improvement, growth and learning is also expected. It's far too soon in the learning curve trajectory to make any sort of definite decision but there are clear signs of struggle. If they continue at the same rate there's very legitimate cause for concern.

I completely agree with this response which is exactly why I am asking how you could possibly have concerns about him at this stage.

Your points are all accurate and well taken. Showing signs of improvement and making smarter decisions is where he needs to be throughout his first year or two, but again, we are two weeks into training camp. How could anything he's doing right now concern you when he is literally learning the system and how to face an NFL defense for the first time in his life?

You can have your questions on his outlook in this league and if he is going to be a good QB or not, but how his play on August 11th concerns you is beyond me

Wilson has had 9 practices. 2 of which have been characterized as bad, one great and the rest average to very good. I don't see any reason for concern. He has not had anywhere near the struggles that Lawrence, Lance and Fields have had in camp plus he was been working exclusively against a 1st team defense.

His biggest issue and the offenses biggest issue has been dealing with the rush. That is an issue for all QBs especially a rookie. I don't understand the concern. He is showing the mental ability and acumen everyday, he is learning everyday and progressing, and the coaches are really happy with him and his progress. Instead of treating him like a rookie the coaches and are throwing everything at him because they think he can handle it. When we should be worried is when coaches feel the need to coddle and protect their QB. No color coded wristbands have been ordered. From all training camp reports Wilson is light years ahead of most rookies.

I know we live and die with each play but the hyper criticism is ridiculous. As Saleh said it is all about process and Zach and the Jets are committed to getting better everyday. There will be wild ups and downs all year but as long as they keep to the process Zach will be fine. But, playing QB is mostly mental. Can he hold up under pressure and can he get back up after a beating? This is where Sam failed. He mentally broke and never recovered from the beating he took against NE. None of us know how Zach will respond to adversity. Hopefully Zach will be mentally stronger.

These statements are where we disagree.

I've followed TC very closely this year and everything I've seen from the beat or from anyone there is that Wilson has been a mixed bag. He's had both good and bad which is exactly what I expected from him at this point in his career. I agree with you in that no one should start sculpting his bust for Canton yet but we also should not be concerned with how he's looked so far. If you are then I think that says more about your expectations than it does about Zach's progression at this point.

I see everyday how Elijah Moore is lighting up the practice field, or Michael Carter/Tevin Coleman/etc. finding running lanes and breaking off huge chunks, Zach threading the needle for an over-the-shoulder catch to Moore/Crowder/etc.

I understand why people have a prove it mentality for this team and I share that feeling to an extent but if you can't see the progress this team has made then in my opinion, it's because you're choosing not to.

They should’ve signed a Vet QB for one year and let Wilson red shirt this season. Right now, the game is moving too fast for him and I’m concerned he’s going to get hurt very soon.

When I read he sailed a throw, I get a little concerned. When I read the ball died on him, I get a little concerned. When I read he’s throwing off his back foot, I get a little concerned. When I read he threw into double/triple coverage, I get a little concerned. When I read he’s holding on to the ball long, I get a little concerned. I do so mainly because that’s not the guy we reportedly drafted according to all the pre-draft experts combined with my own PTSD w/ QBs we’ve drafted in the past. I admire those that are not even a little bit concerned but don’t fault those that are.

As I said in an earlier post, I think this speaks more to your expectations than it does to Zach's actual progression.

If you expected Zach to come in and not sail a few balls or make a few bad reads in his first 2 weeks of TC then you set yourself up to be concerned/disappointed.

I was very pro-Zach all offseason and thrilled we drafted him but even I knew there would be bumps along the way, as is the case with virtually every rookie QB.

I'll never tell anyone how they should feel but I don't understand how anyone can be concerned with a rookie QB looking like a rookie QB during the first 10 practices of his career.

So your concerns are from reports written by our beat writers watching from a distance with ZERO context as to what they are running or what exactly Wilson is potentially working on. Got it.

Let's also ignore what the head coach is saying about it all because it does not fit your argument.

Any of these bring concerns also?

he is getting 3 or 4 sacks per practice. They run like 20 plays tops. He was never that good

Lawson had 32 QB hits last year. He was ranked 7th in the league in sacks created due to his pressures. Behind guys like Aaron Donald, Myles Garrett, TJ Watt, and Khalil Mack.

Some of those practice sacks would probably be just pressures in a real game. So yeah he’s doing what he does.
