Well the Jets have certainly done a good job making sure they have a variety of different types of receivers. Mims should fit his role well and not be asked to do too much. 6'3", 210 and 4.3 speed doesn't come around a ton. And when it does it's usually in the form of Stephen Hill - brick hands and/or limited college production But size and speed only takes you so far. NFL corners can be small yet fast and strong enough at the point of catch to the point where if you can't sell your routes you're never going to catch a thing. Either way I hope they use Mims right. At the very least he should be a deep threat.
True. But a limited role player is not what they drafted him for. I never understood the hysteria on this board over Mims, or why they drafted him to begin with. He's pretty much a straight line route runner. If they got offered a 2nd rounder for him right now, I'm sure they'd jump on that. I'd take a 3rd in a heartbeat. Let some other team think they can teach him to get open.
yeah it was worded weird. my bad. I meant "that is the issue" as in the issue people have. Personally i'm not worried about mims but I was never super high on him. He has a good skill set, but until he improves his route running he's basically a plaxico buress when he was with the jets. Plus with moore, davis, crowder, and cole we don't need a lot from mims this year
Corey Davis. Denzel Mims. Elijah Moore. Jamison Crowder. Keelan Cole. In all my years I've never once believed in a WR core as deep and as talented as this one. Even with Keyshawn Johnson and Wayne Chrebet I don't think D. Ward would've cracked this WR depth chart. If Denzel Mims as a young 2nd year player doesn't start week 1 vs Carolina? This doesn't mean he's a bust. It just means NYJ's WR room is absolutely stacked and fully loaded.
I think you totally misunderstood my post, which sucks because you must have taken a lot of time to write that.
I truly don’t believe that. Again reports aren’t that he’s even been bad in camp, he’s just running with the 2’s and 3’s. If anything I think it comes down to Berrios vs Vyncent Smith for that final WR spot.
Why would we draft some one (Mims) who is a bad route runner lmao. Douglas traded down multiple times btw for him. So he had chances to get a WR who would stick. Just awful management.
Sorry if I misunderstood your post. So what were you saying? It actually didn't take that long to write. I'm a very fast typist! LOL
Haha, good to hear. I pretty much agree with all you said. My post was more at the people saying that he's nothing more than a ST player or will/should be cut. It's his second year, his second coaching staff. Give him time. He's clearly talented going by last year. Also, I'm not sure if it's more than Hughes beating the he doesn't fit the system drum, but unless LaFleur was just giving lip service last week, it doesn't look like this is gonna be a rigid Gase-like staff and they'll find a way to make the system work for the players.
I usually like Hughes, though I guess when his competition is Cimini and a fins fan it doesn't take much, but he's been very adamant about Mims not being in the good graces of this staff for some reason. Hopefully it's not coming from any sources and it's just him reading way too much into what's going on in camp.
Though I will say, there is another Connor I think that is just a blogger and I always get the two of them mixed up.
If Mims does not contribute in a a solid way this year (barring catastrophic quarterback play) then his NFL career as a starter is in serious jeopardy. Receivers usually find their way in year two after struggling in year one. If he's only adding like 300 yards this year, he's likely going to bounce around the league sooner than later. Not many receivers end up as viable starters for any period of time if they don't start to play decently in year two. Again - that's assuming Wilson is healthy and plays OK.
I mean he was hurt and missed half the season and came back to one of the worst offenses ever. I think we have to give him some time with a real offense. If he qualified, his yards/reception would've been top 15 in the league last year and his YAC wasn't top material (4.6) but it was the same as D'Andre Hopkins, so you can't say it was awful (and no I'm not comparing him to Hopkins).
