Building on Connor Hughes tweet Wilson’s biggest problem so far in camp has been trying to deal with the rush. Lawson has been destroying the offense this camp. While Wilson has been able to make a few big plays off scrambles Lawson has extremely disruptive.
Not that I really care, but if people are going to compare and opine on what the other rookies QB are doing versus Wilson, at least bother to find out what the hell is really going on with them in training camp. Not that it really matters, but TL is struggling mighty at this point so please stop bringing him up. So is Sam for that matter. Good Lord. Fields seems to be doing well, but IMO so is Wilson. I expect some bumps along the way.
Again, part of why I was not too concerned after watching the rough footage of the scrimmage. Wilson is facing a top 10 defensive line. It's great for him to learn but it is going to take some time to adjust, especially considering he's been practicing for a week. I expect the game to start to slow down in the next couple weeks for him.
Carl Lawson is ruining practice for the offense edit- I just saw you said the same thing further down the page.
Because there is a hidden agenda which was made clear when he mentioned the key name, Darnold. There are those on here that think we made a huge mistake trading Darnold and will bash the pick to no end. There is no research on the matter because frankly it is irrelevant to them. Facts be damned. And let's not even get started on how bad Darnold is looking according to many reports LOL
I agree. Wilson will benefit from playing against such a disruptive defense but at the same time he will look bad at times in practice as he tries to adjust to the chaos being caused by Lawson and friends. We have to have patience.
I'm curious. What was this supposed to be? Did you see the invalid message on twitter or did the software here state that it isn't a valid id.
My two cents. The biggest problem with Wilson appears to be the relentless rush and on his face D line with very little time to process info. This is a baptism of fire for him and a great learning curve for our rookie. Not to mention all the practices are 11 on 11 with a strong pass rush on every down. I’m more pumped than worried. By the time training camp is over he would have seen more pressure and pockets collapse than he might see in a real live game. He is sucking thru a firehose right now and keeping his poise.
And I think every rookie would struggle in this case. A college QB has never seen a pass rush like an NFL one, especially with a line like ours.
Fields Is struggling, TL struggling, Jones struggling, lance struggling. All of them have had good momemts as well.
The difference between us and the rest of the rookie QB class is that even Trevor Lawrence hasn't been named the day 1 starter. Only Zach was anointed the day 1 starter. The clock for Zach ends when training camp ends, while the rest have the option of learning from the sidelines watching a vet do it. IMO even TL would benefit from a few games of that, because it is almost always the proper way to develop of rookie QB. Especially 21 year old rookie QBs.
I’m of the opinion that what might be going slightly under the radar by those that worry about our offense and Wilson is how freaking good our DL is even without Q. Simply a spectacular wrecking crew. Once we have Q in the midst this defense can become a hell of a lot more disruptive than anything we have had since time memorial. And if so, it will become our QB best friend by giving him great field position.
