Probably back to back AFC Championships has something to do with that Jets were 2-14 so they deserve the concern
I think the way the schedule starts out is going to be a decent help in getting the line to gel. First 3 teams had pretty sub par run D last year, not sure what off season additions for them will do but Jets hopefully get the run game going against them to take the pressure off the O line and Wilson. Titans D shouldn't be too much to worry about but their O likely does some damage. After that they get Falcons, P*ts again, and Bengals so no D powerhouses there either. In the first 7 games only Denver really worries me about pressure on the QB. Though like I said, I'm not sure what off season additions will do for those D's. And Wilson will need to show he can be at least average, but I think the O line, for the first time in a long time, is not going to be of major concern. This is of course all just preseason bluster, we'll have to see what they actually do.
I love the optimism but I think the Jets are a year away from truly competing for a playoff spot. IMHO we need another good draft and FA period. Hopefully Wilson can have immediate success in the NFL like Herbert did with the Chargers. Looking at the AFC starting in the division the Bills, Dolphins then Chiefs, Browns, Ravens, Titans are all clearly better than the Jets. Playoffs are a long shot this year but I hope I am wrong.
This is a great point and something I didn't think about until now. Looking at the schedule, I really only see 3-4 top tier defenses on the schedule. Bucs, Bills, Colts, and maybe the Pats. There are a few solid D's, Phins, Saints, and Broncos, but the schedule seems to be pretty favorable to a first year offense trying to gel and learn a new scheme, especially with how the season starts. We play quite a few teams that are projected to have a bottom 5-10 defense, Panthers, Titans, Falcons, Bengals, Texans, Eagles, and Jags. Things can always change and one, or more, of these teams will probably surprise and be closer to an average D by the end of the year but the more I look at the schedule, the more I like it.
I agree that the Bills, Chiefs, Titans, and maybe the Browns are better, but remember even last year we beat the Browns. I disagree that the Dolphins and Ravens are better. They could be, but the Jets could be better this year with the new talent and CS. I also agree that we're probably a year away from being a playoff team.
It depends on Tua. If he struggles then the Jets can compete with them especially if Wilson has a good rookie year. But Miami's roster is better as they are further along in their rebuild.
They have been over the last several years, and probably will be again, but I think the Jets closed the gap tremendously. If Wilson plays anywhere close to how Herbert played last season and Saleh and LaFleur do well, we could be pretty close, particularly if our DL winds up being as great as I think it's going to be.
Brook, You need to lay off the blunts. If the Jets win 6 games and Wilson has a positive TD to interception ratio and we are competitive i will be happy. I have been a 52 year fan and this team knows how to let you down
bunts were too expensive when I was growing up. Just beer for me. Kidding aside, if things break our way, we are making the playoffs. I will bump this thread up when we do. If we end up winning only 6, I will buy you a beer next time you are up here in NY area
Miami has a weak OL and Tua will have a broken hip by the end of the year. Besides CB, what’s 1 positional group of theirs you’d rather have when comparing the Dolphins to the Jets.
I don't know if we will make the playoffs but it is refreshing to see people around the league taking notice of this roster and this coaching staff. I am reading constantly about how improved the Jets roster is and how much different this coaching staff and approach is from years past. Seeing non stop praise of the offensive and defensive line is so so exciting. Our future is bright fellas. Douglas might be the best hire we have ever had
I would take their entire defense over ours. They were ranked 6th last year so they are solid. The Jets ON PAPER have improved. ON PAPER our OL should be better. ON PAPER our front 7 on defense especially the D-line should be much improved. ON PAPER doesn't mean anything. They still have to go out and prove it on the field. Plus new coaching staff learning the new systems and schemes takes some time for the team to gel. Plus we have to see what Wilson will turn into. Will he be the answer at QB or just another bust? I like what the Jets have done this offseason. I really do but they still have to prove it on the field. This is a team coming off a 2 win season. There is a lot they need to work on. I think 2022 is the year the Jets will compete for a playoff spot if they show improvement this year( I THINK THEY WILL) and they have another solid offseason heading into the 2022 season.
Nope. Not me. I wouldn't even trade Quinnen Williams for their entire Defense. Adding Carl Lawson and getting back C.J Mosley along with my FSU kid Hamsah Nasirildeen and our Defense under coach Saleh is going to become dominant this year. We've got impact players on all 3 levels. Lawson and Quinnen on the D-Line. C.J. Mosley at Linebacker and Marcus Maye within the Secondary. And speaking of Marcus Maye. I've given him a hard time over the years but he's going to emerge as a true Ball Hawking FS within Saleh's cover-3 zone scheme. It's perfect for Maye. Gregg Williams was awful. All he'd do is blitz and then blitz some more. Very predictable. And he'd expose and leave Marcus Maye with no help on the backend due to everyone blitzing and no one dropping back into coverage. I absolutely hated Gregg Williams and so thankful he's gone and Marcus Maye is going to become the main one to flourish out in Centerfield because of it.
Our 22 draft will decide how far these Jets can go. We are truly blessed to have 5 top premium picks. After 2022, that all goes away and we won't be drafting another player until near the end of the first round, and so on. Can you imagine how sweet it would be to have the top pick (and already have a FQB)??? Nothing would be sweeter. Nothing would propel the Jets to the top faster. For 2021 I will root for our new team to make the POs (if that happens, anything can happen!). To quote Rex, "3 home teams advance and the NY Fucking Jets!!!". But if the season goes south and we don't win too many games, then we will all relish the 2022 draft in 8 short months!
