Jets sign Alijah Vera-Tucker to his rookie deal Vera-Tucker’s deal is four years, $15.9 million (fully guaranteed) with an $8.9 million signing bonus and a fifth year team option. The Jets signed offensive lineman Alijah Vera-Tucker to his rookie deal Tuesday, the team announced. Vera-Tucker was the second of the team’s two first-round choices, going 14th overall. Of the Jets’ 10 draft choices, only first-rounder Zach Wilson and second-rounder Elijah Moore remain unsigned.
Players might. A former OL favoring OL at the negotiating table probably won't play too well with defensive players.
We don't know that Douglas is favoring OL, however. I can see where some of the D players might perceive it that way, but if JD had traded up in the 1st round and drafted them, he may have fully-guaranteed their contracts too. It's too early to see any kind of pattern. Moore's contract is guaranteed for the first 3 years. It will be interesting to see what Zach's contract looks like, and what kind of contracts future 1st round picks get from JD. It may have nothing to do with position, and everything to do with the caliber of player/prospect.
I think what we can see is a pattern forming that Douglas favors premium positions and is only willing to invest money and high draft picks in premium positions as we have seen with Becton, Mimms, AVT, ZW, Moore, Lawson and Davis. To a lesser extent we can see this soending more money on the DL in Rankins, Curry and Blair. He seems to value DL, OL and WRs. Which seems like a big improvement over Macs BPA strategy they did not place a priority on position.
