    Jets kicker from 1964-70

He holds the Jets record for points scored in a Super Bowl....lol. A lot of people don’t realize that....

    Thanks for this. Good article!

I'm hoping that Naggar wins the battle. He has talent. You don't do with a football, and make the crazy kicks he does without talent. I'm hoping his issues in OTAs/Mini-camp were a case of rookie jittres, and that he will settle down in TC and blow Ficken away.

He is also tied with Mike Clark, for the SHORTEST FG in Super Bowl History, @mrjet80

    • Shortest made field goal, 9 yards
Note: The goal posts were moved to the back of the end zone in 1974. As such, this record cannot be broken. Standard field goal protocol does not currently allow a kick 17 yards or shorter.

Actually, I think the two's stats were pretty even. I only remember seeing comments on the kickers 2-3 times, and one time Ficken was better by one made kick I think, and another timeNaggar was better by several kicks, the third time, I don't recall their saying who was better, just that both struggled a little.

Wut? You mean there's a rule in the NFL now, that teams cannot kick a FG shorter than 18 yards? If so that's freaking ridiculous!

I was born in the early 90's, so I'm not familiar with players from that time. Namath is the player who comes to mind from that era for obvious reasons. He scored 10 points? Let's hope someone surpassed him during this decade.

I've kicked a couple extra points in my day if the Jets need an extra leg.

Yes. 3 FGs and a PAT after the Snell TD. It’s kinda sad a K is the Jets leading scorer in SB history but then again since the Jets have only played in one SB that’s bound to happen lol.

I didn’t realize he held that record also. At least that one won’t be broken ...

The distance measurement is from the line the ball is kicked to the posts. The end zone is 10 yards and the drop from the snap is generally 7 yards. Thus if the ball is at one inch from the end zone and a field goal is attempted the distance would be 17 yards. A FG is now the line of scrimmage plus 17.

In Superbowl 3 the posts were on the goal line so the distance could be shorter. Hence Turner’s record can’t be broken unless the rules change. Which they won’t.

LOL Duh. Of course. Silly me. Thanks. I don't know what I was thinking (if anything), but I thought he meant a shorter FG was prohibited by the league, not by the realm of possibility.

Pat Leahy aged well as a kicker, but he was so erratic in his early years that I don’t think he would’ve survived had his career been now. In fact I’d say he would not have made it in today’s game, or at least been kept around enough to have had a career. Had this forum been around back when Leahy was in his first few seasons with the Jets, there’d be screaming hissy fits. Bloodbath! Fortunately for Pat, those teams had so many other problems that his faults were not considered to be important. He improved along with everything else and then got to kick on turf when they moved to NJ.

Is that really a "record" though or just dressed up baseball stat minutiae?

    uhhhhh

the end zone is 10 yards. The goal posts are at the back of that end zone. Ya seen a game lately??? So its literally impossible.

could probably set a modern day record though of 12 or 13 if you used the drop kick
