deGrom out after 3 almost perfectly perfect innings (8 Ks rather than 9 in the 9 men faced). Shit shit shit shit.
I don't think that there is any question that that is what is going to happen. The question is whether that is 2 weeks, a month or two, or the rest of the season. Kills a potentially historic season for him, and could easily kill the Mets season too.
It is reportedly right shoulder soreness. You have to wonder if this is all of these issues (right side tightness, right elbow tendinitis, right shoulder soreness) are related to each other, with one injury leading to mechanical problems in other places. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id...ob-degrom-exits-start-early-shoulder-soreness
Maybe he shouldn’t be throwing like 100 every pitch? He’s a human and the arm just isn’t conducive to that? Not sustainable for his health?
Absolutely has to be. One thing hurts, you change something minor to relieve the pain from that area and put more stress on a new area and so on. It's human nature. I'm sure they did MRIs on his entire arm the other day so I don't think it will be anything serious. Just sit him for a start or two.
It is of course great news that the MRI is clean, but I still think they should be skipping his next start. A start now is way less important than multiple starts in September and October.
Well said. Especially since your Mets have a nice 5 game lead over Philly for 1st place. NYM can definitely afford to let him miss the next 1 or even 2 starts to play it safe (and smart). Side note: I'd really love a TB Rays vs. your NY Mets World Series (the battle of the underdogs).
Big agree. The rest of the rotation has been good enough and we have an okay lead where he can skip one. After the Nats series this weekend we have like 10 against Philly/Atlanta coming up. Absolutely need to split those 10 at worst. Neither team gains substantial ground + we shorten the season.
Rojas puts Diaz in in a non-save situation (0-0 in the bottom of the ninth), and of course he is completely ineffective and the Mets lose 1-0. Mets have gone 21 straight innings without scoring a run, and start a stretch of 3 double headers in the next 7 games.
“The definition of 'insanity' is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. What’s the point of collecting data if you’re gonna keep ignoring it? The man can’t pitch in non saves situations. It sucks and doesn’t make any sense but it’s what he’s been showing you. You can get on Rojas and Diaz, but i guess it’s all a moot point if the offense does nothing. Still waiting on Lindor!
