The New York Jets were one of the worst teams passing the football last season (duh) and one area that absolutely has to be better in 2021 is making big plays downfield and through the air. 13 plays of 20+ yards passing is NOT enough in the current NFL!
That’s sort of how I see it too. I think Moore is going to be incredibly dynamic in his career. Can’t wait to watch him on Sundays.
I know the focus was on the receivers but Michael Carter should have gotten some mention. I think we are going to see an explosive running game with him headlining .
Very well could as he is a veteran and was paid fairly big money. The Jets will undoubtedly want to make that move pay off.
I don't think you can go from what the Jets offense was last year to "big plays downfield" without fixing some of the basic failings of the offense that were evident last season. For big plays to happen the Jets need to increase the number of 2nd, 3rd and short situations. If you're constantly in 3rd and longs, the defense knows you have to throw and makes it harder to complete passes. To get into those optimal passing situations, the Jets will have to improve on running the ball, improve pass protection because it's hard to make big plays downfield if you don't have time to throw, improve on not taking drive killing penalties and finally, improve on short passing game in taking what the defense is giving e.g. throw to backs, TEs and slot WRs. When a team can execute these offensive fundamentals, the opportunities for making big plays downfield will inevitably improve.
I hear you and don’t disagree. The video I created doesn’t go over that, but it is absolutely a factor. The running game video is coming soon!
Agree and will add that they better have a very solid run game or they will have a real issue throwing period.
well-said, @SOJAZ A rookie qb's two best friends are: 1-solid OL that will give him at least a modicum of protection so he doesn't have his psyche/confidence wrecked (a la David Carr and Shane "Footsteps" Falco) and 2-a solid running game which takes heat off of the passing game by giving the offense balance AND which also serves to slow the pass rush.
