Of course I was just a young boy at the time, but Joe Namath was the man back in the day.

To the point ColoradoContrails made earlier in this thread, if you are only judging Joe from his stats and by today's standards, you're missing out. Joe meant so much more than his stats.

I didn't study the list, but I would imagine that the mediocre QBs you mention were often playing from behind, and probably had to air it out because they were playing catch-up, and against "prevent" defenses..

I think the afc east teams defenses along with Tampa are going to be tough on anyone especially a rookie. All you can hope for is growth, I do not want him to have a few good games and then it seems the league finds his keys and he sputters later in the yr..

I think we want him to stay healthy, show confidence, lead us to 2 late in the game comeback drives, bounce back after bad games. Show leadership on the field. If he does that stats are not going to matter

Was thinking about making a video about this very topic.

I think we will be a pretty balanced team offensively. I hope we opt to run the football much more than we have. For that reason, I think his stats may be on the lower side, but I think he will complete a high number of passes and low INTs.

The 17-game schedule really messes with season stats, particularly yardage. A 60% comp percentage, 240+ yards per game, and at least a 2:1 TD:INT ratio with 25 combined rushing/passing TDs would be a success. Also, not starting off his career with a pick-6 would be great. Anything beyond these stats would be superb, and is completely within reach for the kid and this staff.

Quick note re: yardage, for elite QBs playing the full schedule, 4000 should be an easy mark. Maybe this will open some eyes to Namath doing it in a 14-game season.

The most important stat to me would be playing 17 games.

After that I would focus on the last 6 games of the year and see if we see improvement.

Is the CS showing confidence and opening up more of the offense? Does ZW look comfortable in the pocket, showing pocket presence and making good decisions. One of the things I noticed looking at 2019 was when ZW was pressured and frustrated at times he lost composure and started making rushed and bad decisions. In 2020 he looked cool and composed under pressure able to make subtle slides here and there to get the ball out. Which one will we see in 2021.

Regardless it is a pretty exciting time. I don't remember drafting Namath but I was excited when we drafted Todd, O'Brien, Pennington and Sam. I was not excited when we used a 1st rounder on Sanchez. Drafting a 1st round QB is pretty rare and special with ZW being the 7th QB we have drafted in round one in 60 years. Hopefully, it will be 20 years before we have to draft another.

These may be a bit optimistic because the division is tougher than I think some people give it credit for. A rookie QB and a lot of new players/rookies learning a new offense vs. Belichick, Flores, and McDermot for a 3rd of their games.

    TD - 24
    INT - 17
    Yards - 3900
    Comp% - 61
    Sacks - 36

    Rushing - 270
    Rush TD - 3

At least $22.9 in his 1st four seasons.
