We'll be Ok starting Zack. You have to look at the expectations, environment, and the coaching staff. We're not a primed team with PO/SB expectations. We're coming off a 2-14 season with a rookie QB. Game plans will be designed to protect Zack. Run heavy, short passes, screens/draw plays on 3rd and long, etc. Our coaching staff will prioritize Zack's safety and development over winning every game at all costs. It will be frustrating as fans, but Saleh/JD have a 3 year window to finish this thing they started. They won't rush it. You won't see Zack in the 4th qtr of the Snoopy Bowl!
As of right now, I can't see how Wilson wouldn't start. We really have no one better on the roster....unless Morgan is some hidden gem. Lawrence will start because he was the #1 pick and I highly doubt the other 3 guys would be marketably better. All the other drafted QB's are behind veteran QB's that are currently better than they are.
Happy to see this post get so much conversation going. Feels like the season is getting closer because of the busier message board
Same here....but he's a first timer. I hope he can marry his game plan with the players we have, and keep Zack on the right path all at the same time. It's probably harder than we know...the way a game plan looked on the white board versus how it actually playes out between the hashes.
we'll have to wait and see but so far our bar is so low for OC's and QB's and offense in general anything is an improvement
Another false premise. The consensus #1 overall pick at QB is different than all the chaff after him. This is true in all drafts that have a guy seen as a generational prospect at QB. Sometimes they sit for a bit like Eli Manning did but mostly they are on the field at the start. The Jets have done this exact same bungled move twice in a row now, taking Sanchez as the over-promoted #2 QB in 2009 and ruining him by rushing him onto the field and then taking Darnold as the over-promoted #2 QB in 2018 and ruining him by rushing him on the field. We're swinging at strike 3 if we do this with Wilson this year.
Starting Wilson week 1 is just a new group of football guys repeating the pattern that predecessors have and being a fan you have to hope for different results. Being a Jets fan it's hard for me not to expect something similar.
I hear you. IDK why I'm setting aside my decades of frustration and skepticism this time, but I am. I guess it's that "Charlie Brown" in me being a sucker for "Lucy".
As I posted in the AVT thread under this same post, it may not mean much to the cynics, but it does send a clear and positive message, and we can't have too much of that IMO.
The problem with our previous high draft picks at QB wasn't that they started too soon, it was that they were bad QB's.
Disagree. They all could play, we will never know if they would've performed better if they sat and developed
Cimini keeps bringing up Foles.... I hope he knows something. Foles starting while Wilson sits is ideal imo
If you start your rookie year then suck then go to a different team and suck it is because you started as rookie. I am not following the logic.
