To be fair, it was rare to see a guy throw high 90's fastballs back then and now so many guy throw mid to high 90 mph sinkers. It's insane. But the mere fact that a hitter can't or won't go the other way against a shift infuriates me.
Yeah it's wild. It's how you hit breaking pitches period. That's the root of why there's so many strikeouts unfortunately. Coupled with the fact that if you can consistently hit 30-40 bombs a year you're going to be worth $200-300 million.

Great as it is to see Sanchez hit a homer, the bat flips are really poor form for a guy that can’t sniff .200 and strikes out a million times a year.
I couldn't agree more. This guy is so hard to root for and for fuck's sake learn the English language. I find that so annoying.
Seriously. I'm cool with the bat flips and what not but you can't be a jag below the mendoza line for the third time in four years and do it.
Can you spell "entitled"? The guy plays like crap at bat and behind the plate, and all we hear from Boone is how hard Sanchez works and other rah-rah stuff. Last year, when Sanchez struck out five times in a game, Boone told us, "Gary had some really good swings today.". One of the reasons Girardi was let go was because he dared to give Sanchez some tough love instead of kissing his ass. Girardi knows what it takes to be a championship-caliber catcher, and it must have burned his ass to watch this guy moping around day after day. Why is the entire Yankee organization so in love with this guy? Why do they treat him with kid gloves no matter how badly he plays?
Unfortunately, it's the way the modern day sensitive athlete demands to be treated. As far as Sanchez goes, there's something that always felt unusual with him. Even during his first two years, I never felt like the guy cracked a smile even as he approached Piazza numbers at the plate. Maybe he has demons? Maybe he doesn't love the game? Maybe it's neither and he's just not a guy who smiles a lot and really is a serious go about my business dude. Boone sucks by the way. He's the living definition of a yes man. Good observations. I just started getting into hockey this year and I was curious about the language barriers due to the big melting pot and the consensus is that the players learn the language within a year or two. Baseball players sometimes seem content on never learning it. It has to be difficult for a catcher with a pitcher though to not speak the same language.
Agreed. As long as Cashman is in charge, they Yankees will never again have a real manager. He forced Torre out and got rid of Girardi when he became too independent. Cashman wants a cheerleader and a yes man, and that's exactly what Boone is. For Cashman, it's a great gig. He makes all the decisions, and Boone has to answer for those decisions and take the blame.
I’d think by the time you get to the majors you’d have acquired at least a functional ability to communicate in Spanish. He talks to guys on the mound and in the dugout.
It's frustrating to watch the game managed by numbers. The Yankees have long been overly obsessed with the lefty/righty thing. Alternating it in the lineup, playing the bullpen strictly by that matchup. Taking starters out at a hard pitch count (Tanaka being the biggest victim of this) even when they're rolling. That's all Cashman and the analytics department. Girardi wanted to manage with some feel for the game and that along with the Sanchez stuff is where they clashed hard.
