if mosley returns to the way he was, it will be a big addition we haven't had the past 2 years. we also still have maye and a nasty d-line with JFM, Q, phillips, foley, shepard all returning plus the additions of rankins and lawson. Our offense should be much approved as well. our top 5 WRs last year were perrimen, mims, crowder, hogan, berrios. this year davis replaces perrimen which is huge. hogan and berrios will be replaced by cole and moore. plus we barely had mims due to injury. the o-line should be imporved with the full offseason to gel and AVT taking the LG spot and becton healthy and in year 2. carter/coleman/ty/adams is always way better then the gore fest with perine backing him up we had last year. and hopefully wilson outplays what sam was giving us which isn't a very high bar.

I think we might take a step back defensively as we transition to the 4-3. Historical speaking the switch from one defensive scheme to another is usually bumpy. Even Saleh’s 49ers defense took a season or 2 to get acclimated. Hopefully, this is offset by an improved offense. Our lack of scoring has put a lot of stress on our defense the past couple of years. They were a bit better than their rankings.

Easier schedule in '21 too. But yeah, there are usually growing pains with new schemes

People like to talk about “wins” in a vacuum but let’s look at our opponents:

    Shit teams we play:
    Eagles
    Texans
    Bengals
    Jax

    Questionable teams we play:
    Broncos
    Panthers
    Falcons
    NO
    Miami
    Miami

    Quality teams we play:
    NE
    NE
    Bills
    Bills
    Colts
    Titans
    Tampa

I 100% agree 6-7 wins is laughable but for different reasons.

The problem is most people outside this forum would put the Jets in the shit teams tier.

NE was pretty bad last season. I think I would have them in at least the questionable team tier, if not the "shit team" tier. You're giving Belicheat a lot of credit.

I am. They were 7-9 despite a handful of key opt outs and Cam was noticeably worse after catching Covid. Especially after the Super Bowl, Bill has something to prove this year.

7-9 with broken cam at QB and 8 opt outs including 4 pro bowl defenders. they get their 2019 beats mode defense back now plus mac jones at QB. their offense is still weak though. no WRs, no run game, shakey o-line

Well, there ya go. An intelligent thoughtful response that pertains to the question of how many wins does our draft bring us this year. As you just said here, you believe the defense will take a step back, which may be entirely true as they learn a new scheme.

So, as I said previously, it makes no difference how many wins we get as long as the team continues to move in the right direction. A young team with a new head coach, a new scheme on both sides of the ball, a new QB, and other draftees go into each game as an underdog.

You believe the defense will take a step back, so surely wins are not the first thing on your mind this upcoming season, but an improving defense is. Offense too, since you made a comment about our lack of scoring. So we need to make great strides there too. That doesn't bold well for any team that looks at wins and losses as the be-all-end-all to how we end up viewing the upcoming season.

A 6 win season means nothing if there is no context. What happens if Wilson gets hurt and our backup leads us to 6 wins against banged up teams. What if the other teams turn the ball over against us and we win 6 games 10-6. What if the offense sucks and our defense wins us 6 games? What if the defense sucks and our offense wins us 6 games? What if we lead the league in special teams but both our offense and defense suck?

    Context!

None of those sound too bad to be honest. If Wilson goes down and Morgan rides us to six wins we may have found a decent player in a bad situation.

At first I was thinking we need a good 2nd draft in 2022 to round out the team, so less wins this season could be a good thing in the long run.

BUT then I got to thinking that the Jets, more than most teams, should know that a Rookie HC + Rookie QB MIGHT JUST LEAD TO SOMETHING SPECIAL!!!

The Rex/Nacho era started with a BANG, with the NY FN Jets just 30 mins from the SB.

So...Now I'm going to pull for the PO's, catch lightning in a bottle. It ALMOST happened 10 yrs ago, let's finish it this time!!! (But if/when the POs can't happen, I'll switch to hoping for a good 2022 draft)

But for now....GO JETS!!!! 2021 or BUST!!!

I think we can all agree, our ideal season involves an injured Russel Wilson

At the end of the day, the Number of wins is a measure of success against the competition. And it’s the only thing that actually matters to be a perennial contender. Continue to improve and win. It takes a lot more than the QB contribution. It takes all 53 to win. So if the defense scores, great. If special team scores great. It is not how many wins can be directly attributable to Wilson or any one player, but to the team in total. It’s the whole team that gets the win or loss. If the competition sucks so be it. We need to be get better and get in the winning side for a change. A win is a win is a win. This team needs to start contributing to a win across the board, and remain strong and competitive against the top tier teams.

Now that would be awesome! Jets win SB and pick 32. But Russel Wilson goes down in TC and they (we!) pick #1 overall!!!!

The Patriots are not blowing anyone out with Cam and Mack at QB and Tua is a question mark in Miami. We will be in all four of those games with a chance to win.

Most games in the NFL are close and usually comes down to mistakes. We beat the Rams last season and we fielded the worst Jets team in recent memory.

If the Jets stay healthy they will win at least 6 games. If Beckton and AVT go down we maybe looking at 3-4 win season.

I think our defense will be solid, our corners are way underrated, especially with the scheme we are running. If Mike Lefluer sticks to a ground and Pound philosophy our offense will surprise. Our receivers are good with potential to be special. Mims is perfect receiver for the jump balls Zach likes to throw, Davis is a solid receiver all around, Crowder on third down, and Elijah Moore with 4.3 speed and the ability to take it to the house on a screen pass.

Our RBs are pretty good as well.

It is an exciting time to be a Jets fan. A couple good bounces and some momentum we can be a good football team. We will not be the laughing stock I guarantee that.

    Upgrades
    Coaching
    QB
    O-line
    D-line
    RB
    Receiver

Every team has holes that is just part of the NFL. Modern NFL defense just have to be good, play zone coverage and rush the passer. Lockdown corners are a thing of the past. Bills defense sucked last year and KC and the Bucs were able to Rush the passer.

That's really not the point. The point is to build a championship contending team. A 6 win Giants team is much different than a 6 win Jets team. If the Giants win 6 games this season, there is a good chance everyone will be fired and they will be looking for a new QB next season. If we 6 wins and everyone shows improvement, that is a very successful season & most would say we are heading in the right direction. Nobody would say the Giants are heading in the right direction.
