Between now and the start of the season there are likely to be a ton of roster moves, so we probably should go ahead and create a thread for the moves.

A couple of minor moves have already happened.

They release DE John Daka (and the Rams promptly signed him)

The Jets released defensive end John Daka almost four months after signing him to a reserve/future contract on Jan. 12.

Daka, a former undrafted free agent from James Madison, signed with the Ravens before the 2020 season. He didn’t see the field last year for Baltimore. The 6-foot-2, 227-pound Daka tallied 27.5 sacks, 137 tackles and six forced fumbles in 51 games for James Madison.

The Jets have a pretty strong collection of defensive linemen following the draft, so it would have been hard for Daka to make an impression in camp.

    They signed Matt Cole

The Jets have claimed WR Matt Cole.

Cole (5-10, 197) was waived by the 49ers May 4. He first signed with the Dolphins April 29, 2020 as an undrafted free agent out of McKendree and was waived during final roster cuts. He was signed to Miami's practice squad the next day and San Francisco signed him to the active roster Dec. 24. He made his NFL debut in the 2020 season finale against the Seahawks and made two special teams tackles.

In college, Cole was the Great Lakes Valley Special Teams Player of the Year as a senior in 2019 and was first-team All-GLVC. He also had averaged 23 kick returns, 625 yards (27.2 avg) and 1 touchdown as well as eight punt returns for 208 yards (26.0 avg).

Hey Driskel was one of my late round guys back in the day. Always like his tools. He’d be good fit as a back up in this offense.

i get the vet QB but ingram doesn't seem like JDs MO and bringing in a vet QB shows no faith in morgan and means we'll have to carry 3 or risk losing morgan

we really should look at kwon alexander IMO but doens't seem like we are

also worth noting the lions waived kaerryon johnson but i'll pass on him. he's knee issues made him lose all his explosiveness. kid could had been good if not for the bum knees

Bringing a vet is probably more for things like helping the QB room with some experience more than anything else. If you started a brand new job with millions of people watching every move, wouldn’t you like someone who’s done it before to work with you for a little guidance? Morgan has never started a game, not even preseason. He can’t offer that.

Alexander can't stay healthy. They don't seem to have any interest in KJ Wright, either. Evidently, they are going to be content going with young players this season giving them a chance to develop and see who can help the team going forward. I like that and think it's the right move. They're likely not going to the playoffs this year anyway. If that is the case, however, why the interest in Ingram?

I get that part, and those choices would be cheap, but then it burns a roster spot on a 3rd QB or we put morgan on the PS and risk him getting picked up. Not a fan of either of those options.
we signed curry and appaerntly interesting in ingram. both of whom are on the wrong side of 30. JD also brought kalil mack out of retirement. he's shown he'll grab an older guy here and there. for Alexander i get the injury history but a 1 year prove it deal wouldn't kill us. espcially when we are thin at Lber he fits our system, and we have 2 young guys converting from S to LBer as rookies

Who was labelled “T-Rex arms” on here for the 2012 Draft. Was it Ingram? Mercilus? I’ve lost a lot of brain cells since then.

None of the vets linked with us above seem like JD signings?

This was a bad day to buy the following jerseys:
    • John Daka
    • Kyron Brown

It’s definitely not Mercilus. He had great measurables.

It would kill us if Alexander signed with us then got injured like Mosley and only played a couple of quarters then missed the rest of the year. Douglas would get killed for that. IMO KJ Wright would be a safer and better bet, but they apparently have no interest in him either. I don't understand that, but I'll trust JD and Saleh.

at this point it looks like he'll take a cheap 1 year deal. similar to what we gave jarrad davis. no risk in a 1 year deal.

I disagree. What evidence do you have that he'd take a "cheap" one-year deal? "Cheap" is also relative. He might take a "cheap" deal to play with a contender, but it could cost the Jets a lot more. Also, regardless of how "cheap" a contract he might be willing to sign, if he can't stay healthy and on the field, it's a waste of cap space and a roster spot, and it wouldn't be a "cheap" deal if we paid him for sitting on IR.

supply and demand. obviously nobody is offering him much. unless he just wants to retire. any still unsigned free agent right now will be cheap
