My buddy just texted me that he was very impressive. He's not a Wilson guy at all either and a big critic in general about the Jets. Glad to hear.
I agree dawinner. Kid seems to have a great attitude and to be highly intelligent to boot. Hard not to be excited right now as a Jets fan.
Wilson is the starter for the Jets and Morgan is a back-up. We don't need to spend 10 mil in CAP for another QB and lose any draft picks over it. Get Hoyer for cheap, and use the CAP to give QBs some weapons or improve the D. I posted in another thread that pretty much every young QB taken high except Mahomes in recent memory started their first season, including successful ones, such as Wentz, Allen, Watson, Herbert, Mayfield, etc... The list goes on an on. We have a starter, and Morgan was drafted for a reason too, and that is to be a back-up. He is 24 now, sat and learned entire season. Time to put big boy pants on and contribute. We need a 3d string QB vet for cheap, and that's it.
Foles I believe has $4M left each this coming season and next season. That’s it. No signing bonus. Get Bears to pay a little bit and the Jets have a backup QB. I am a Morgan fan and hope to see him but we can’t go to the season without a vet QB at 2. And I think Foles has more to offer to Wilson then Hoyer.
I'd rather take Mullens who knows some of the staff and the system already or if we can get Minshew for a 5th or lower, he looked like he could cope with our new system but he may well come under the banner of controversial competition and JD didn't want that.
In all likelihood, Wilson is going to start Day 1, but I hope he doesn't, unless he clearly shows in T.C. and P.S. that he can handle the big difference between college and the NFL. I really don't want another Darnold Experiment, and "I'm seeing ghosts". Make sure everything is in place for Wilson to have the best shot at success.
That’s not as much of a controversy if you had Darnold vs Wilson. Or someone much younger than Foles. At least not to me. But understand your concerns. Wilson has to earn it first. I look at it like Taylor vs Hebert.
JD doesn't want our smart, mature, second overall QB to have to be better then anyone. Which is hard because at this point all these backups are better then Wilson. Its a tightrope walk.
He will. The ghosts are when you don't protect your QB, and JD did much better there than his predecessors, even traded up in this draft. It's a big jump from BYU to NFL, but based on what I heard in Saleh/JD presser, Zach is picking up/retains things quickly, so I am hopeful he will be ready. If not Morgan is there and Jets should sign a cheap vet like Hoyer, so one of them could start a few games. What I don't want to do is spend a lot of CAP room and draft picks to get a QB with Zach and Morgan here. Save CAP and picks to get assets for them. Zach will be the starter if not game 1, very shortly after and expensive/costly vet to me is not a good investment.
I’ve seen a lot of interviews at this point. He’s a lot more relaxed and comfortable in his skin vs Darnold. Seems more confident as a person, we’ll have to see how that translates to the field.
