Disagree. In fact, many people are reporting this morning that the Patriots were set to take him at #15.
Two third round picks in a draft where the question marks are more massive past the first round than with any draft in the modern era. I'd love it if we annoyed Bill the way we did with Kyle Brady (shudder) but I don't see it. They would have taken an OL over a Saban-approved QB, really?
Over a QB? Many people are full of shit. Was it the same reporters that said Buffalo were trading up for Etienne?
Jet fans are crazy, JD gets killed for picking development players in the 3rd round and now Jet fans are crying because JD gave up a couple of thirds to get a plug and play guard, between McGovern and Becton. Now go get Creed Humphrey, it will be a repeat of Mangold, Brick and Faneca!
Just a couple picks before the Bears gave up a future 1st to move up 9 spots. We gave up a 3rd and exchanged a 3rd for a 4th in a draft where there likely won’t be much of a talent drop off between a 3rd and 4th round pick. When the Jets went on clock at 14 I was worried that we gave up 34 or future picks, we gave up neither which made this trade a huge win. AVT is a future pro bowler and this left side of the OL is dynamic now.
The patriots had been tied to him all offseason. They were also heavily tied to Davis Mills in the later rounds. They were anticipating taking AVT at #15 and likely grabbing Mills later in the draft.
This was my exact thought last night. They jumped the pats for a reason and of course if the pats had picked him everyone would be saying he’s great
4/5 spots are filled now. There’s still a few options in free agency , a couple of options on the roster and probably a surprise cut or 2. I think Douglas likes Clark for that spot and drafted him with an eye on this year but if that doesn’t work there’s still plenty of ways to upgrade.
I hate this pick mostly because I felt Jenkins was the superior prospect and we could of had Jenkins at 23 and kept our 3rd rounders... plus every Jets GM drafts a USC player in the first always ends up being a bust.. it’s clown shoes... not to mention he’s got to fill out our roster with 4/5/6 rounders now.. good luck
Vera Tucker is built like a brick shithouse. I would put him at left guard and run behind that side all day long I was skeptical at first, trading up for a guard but pleasantly surprised they were somehow able to keep the 34th pick, especially after what the Bears gave up to move the same number of spots
keep in mind because of Covid this was a "free year" for college players and their eligibility. that makes this draft very top heavy because the mid/lower round type prospects returned to school. The 3rd, 4th round type prospects are the weakest in years. Thats been on the mind of many GMs
Schools were closed Scouts couldn't get in facilities Some players missed 20 with opt outs Some teams didn't really play this year No visits Limited interactions at pro days No combine Can't get your own docs on the players The draft this year has got to be the worst in a long time from being able to really evaluate so many players. It's a mad year. Sent from my M2007J20CG using Tapatalk
The picks in 2022 are looked at as "gold" right now. The draft next year is going to be LOADED with talent. Filling the holes on this roster is going to take a few years. I am 100% fine with JD trading to get the best guard in the draft right now. We have 4 picks in the first two rounds of 2022. Trade what you want now and hang on to the picks next year. I would much rather start targeting playmakers in 2022 and stack the line this year.
AVT says to JD I am delighted to be playing for the Jets and protect our man Darnold. JD responds, “ Mmmm, we traded Darnold and drafted Wilson” JK. Delighted to see a Gaurd drafted and hope he turns out well! Welcome to the NYJ AVT!!!!
Pretty sure if the trade worked in reverse and JD moved down and got back two 3rd rounders some of the same people complaining about giving up those picks would be complaining that he didn't get enough back. I trust that JD had knowledge that AVT wouldn't fall much farther, so he found the right trade partner who was looking to move down at a cost he felt comfortable with...
