Beat me to it by a second. Fields stans in disbelief. Remember all the lunatics running around here claiming Wilson fans were just falling victim to media hype and didn't know what they were talking about? Look in the mirror fellas.
If anything, I would be asking how Fields shot up every Internet GM’s draft board so early. The Clemson game? Probably. The pro day? Most definitely. But the problems with Fields were never going to be erased by one game or a pro day. I know I’m preaching to the choir and I know it’s already been said at least 100 times but Fields doesn’t have on tape what scouts and coaches need to see in today’s NFL. It’s not his fault, but that’s just the way it is.
Interesting analysis of Zach by Merril Hoge, former NFL player, watched Zach since high school, and analyzed every throw he ever made. Acknowledges issues, such as BYU being better than the teams they played this year, making some bad decisions against good teams, when he was pressured. Says there are concerns. However, points out special hard working attitude, great accuracy, and overall makes pretty fair analysis concluding the Jets fans now have something to get excited about, expects Zach to be a good fit. 37m mark:
Well, throwing 41 TDs vs 3 ints in 2019 didn't hurt his value. Fields didn't just come out of nowhere with one great season against over matched teams that are so far below NFL level talent that picking him 2nd makes him the worlds largest chunk of pyrite.
Obviously, but the hype for Fields just kind of happened without any real consideration for the actual issues that come along with drafting him. You can say that for anyone really, but it seems like the internet and media really got caught up in it while the NFL front offices understood the reality.
This thread is now 140+ pages. Really not sustainable. I will start the new thread at Draft Forum and carry all Draft topics there tomorrow instead of waiting Thursday. I didn't read last 20+ pages but some folks reached out to me and told me things are getting out of hand here. I trust their judgment. 3 days to draft. Please don't get personal.
I don't see Fields being worth the second pick either. Maybe a complete team could take that risk but not for a team with as many holes as us.
It's a trainwreck in here, which is why I'd much rather keep this dumpster fire burning til Thursday rather than ruin another thread. Thursday is a sacred day. It's our tri-yearly tradition of anointing a new savior. You'd hope everyone will be on their best behavior by then.
I was a bit bothered by this when I first read it, but then I remembered that Wilson has ADHD, and perhaps is OCD. For someone with those traits, "neatness" isn't optional it's on the obsessive scale, so I can see why his roommates not cleaning up and doing their share would drive him nuts. I'm not excusing it, but just trying to put it in perspective. Once he gets his own place he can put the camera away.
I cannot wait for Thursday night so we can put this thread to rest. All of you are wanna be GM's and think you know better than the next person. Sent from my SM-G986U using Tapatalk
You say that like he does that on every play, which is far from the case. Yes, he has locked onto his initial receiver, but he's had lots of throws where he goes through progressions. I think a good many of these "first read locked on" throws are because he just feels he can beat the coverage. But for sure he's going to have to learn he won't be able to do that in the NFL.
And how well did those "strengths" help him? Another example of great physical traits not matching up with the mental ones.
or was I remember one coach phrasing it, CC, Jay Cutler had a billion dollar cannon for an arm and a 10 cent fart for a brain.
This is volume 3. We got like 400 pages of the same debate. But this thread isn't a dumpster fire until I mention Devonta Smith. Devonta Smith. Okay, carry on.
