Here we go!! My final mock for the 2021 Draft. This is how I feel it plays based on the players skills, system fit and team need: Jaguars- Trevor Lawrence QB - No brainer pick. One of the best prospects I’ve ever seen. Jets - Zach Wilson QB - Jets roll the dice with the live arm BYU quarterback. *Trade* - 49ers - Trey Lance QB - They keep Jimmy and ease Lance into the NFL. I don’t buy the Mac Jones smoke screen. Falcons- Jamaar Chase WR - Falcons take the best prospect on their board with Julio trade rumours swirling. Bengals -Penai Sewell OT - Bengals look to protect Burrow at all cost with the wide body Sewell *Trade* Dolphins- Kyle Pitts TE - Dolphins get Tua a nice weapon to work with that has elite level potential. Lions - Davonte Smith WR - He just has IT. One of the best intermediate route runners I’ve ever analyzed that has a second gear speed. Panthers - Rashawn Slater OT - Panthers invest in a tackle to boost the offensive line. Broncos -Micah Parsons LB - First defensive player off the board with the awesome side line to side line LB. Cowboys - Patrick Surtain CB - Cowboys need corner help and they add the most polished corner in the class. Giants - Jalen Waddle WR - Giants add the speedster to give DJ all the tools to succeed. Eagles - Christian Darrisaw OT - Solid tackle that didn’t allow a pressure or sack last year. Huge upside *Trade* Patriots - Justin Fields QB - Pats move up a few spots to secure Fields. Vikings- Kwity Paye EDGE - They grab some help for Hunter on the line. *Trade* Chargers - Alijah Vera-Tucker G - Chargers bulk up their OL with the versatile AVT. Cardinals- Jaycee Horn CB - The cards need corner help and Jaycee is a stud. Raiders - Tevin Jenkins OT - Chuckie continues to build his new OL with the Nasty versatile lineman. Dolphins- Najee Harris RB - Fins Take the pressure off Tua and he is an absolute stud. Football Team - Mac Jones QB - Mac falls to Washington and they take a chance on him. Bears - Caleb Farley CB - Farley has good awareness, physical and size to add to the bears D. Colts - Gregory Rousseau EDGE - Athletic freak with excellent speed and first step. Titans - Jeremiah Owusu LB - Add a LB with huge upside to their D. Jets - Greg Newsome CB - Cover corner with huge upside and a massive position of need. Jets need a true number 1 corner to pair with Hall on the outside and Newsome has big upside. Steelers - Creed Humphrey C - Pouncy retired Creed can step in day 1. Jaguars - Jaelen Phillips EDGE - Meyer is aggressive on D and will add pass rushers. Boom or bust with his injury history Browns - Azeez Ojulari EDGE- Browns add more pass rushers to take some double teams off Garrett. Ravens - Rashod Bateman WR - They need that true number 1 WR to help Lamar. Saints - Christian Barmore DT - Big run stopper with interior pass rush ability Packers -Langdon Dickerson C - Their interior line needs help especially at center. Bills - Joe Tryon EDGE- Bills always want more pass rushers. Ravens - Zaven Collins LB - Excellent motor with good ball skills. Bucs - Carlos Basham DL - Plug another prospect on the DL to get to the QB. Bash am in that rotation would be a good mix. 2nd round - Wyatt Davis G - Davis is just a bulldozer in the run game and solid in the pass protection. He immediately becomes our starting RG. 3rd round -Payton Turner DE - He’s big, tough and a high motor. JD/Saleh type of player that would be a nice addition to the pass rush. 3rd round (Sea) - Trey Sermon RB - Perfect fit for a wide zone scheme. He’s a foot in the ground 1 cut runner that has an excellent burst of speed. This fit makes a lot of sense. *Trade* Titans trade pick 101 to the Jets for Pick 108 + 6th (Car) 3rd round (Ten) - Dylan Moses LB - Side line to side line LB with good instincts and toughness. Getting CJ a fellow Bama boy might also get the juices flowing on the D. 5th round - Robert Hainsey G - Hainsey is really underrated as far as I’m concerned and I feel he has day 1 starter capabilities. 5th round (NYG) - Trea Berry TE - Big (6’7”)Tight end with athleticism and ability catching the football. Boom or Bust pick but worth the risk. 6th round - Evan McPherson K - We need to fix this position of need and JD takes a shot at arguably the best kicker in college.
Sorry, I'm just not a fan. I like that you tried to address most of our positions of need and kept most of the draft to offense. 1st round - Of course I love Wilson. At #23, the pick should be OL unless AVT, Jenkins and Humphrey are all gone. Then I'd probably take Newsome but with his injury history, he's very risky. 2nd round - After what MeanDean said about Davis, I wouldn't draft him until the 3rd round. If JD drafts him, I'll hope for the best, but would rather he draft someone elsethere. 3rd round - DE isn't a need, and I don't think Turner is a good prospect. IMO taking a DE in this draft is a big mistake. I won't be unhappy if Sermon is the pick, as I like him, I just don't think he's an ideal scheme fit. He's an inside runner, not outside, and Gainwell, Carter, Herbert, Hubbard, and maybe Javian Hawkins are all better scheme fits. 4th round - I wouldn't be a fan of trading up here, even for Moses, whom I like, but he's your best 3rd round pick. Take him instead of Payton, and forget the trade up, and it would be better imo. 5th round - I don't know why you like Hainsey. Just because he played at ND doesn't mean he's really good or a scheme fit. IMO he is totally NOT a scheme fit. I've never heard of Trea Berry, so will have to research him, but IMO the Jets would have been better off taking Brevin Jordan in the 3rd round at pick #86, or taking Matt Bushman with one of their 6th round picks. 6th round - Again, I don't like the trade up. We could have perhaps taken Javian Hawkins with the 1st 6th round pick or added a SS or someone who could help on STs. I like taking a kicker with the last pick. I'd be fine with either McPherson or Borregales.
I don’t believe in the theory that you must take a certain position at a certain spot and thank goodness neither is JD. I think taking the best player at the position of need is the best way to build a franchise.. JD just said he’s taking the best player available that’s going to help the team. So having to take a OL at 23 no matter what is not going to happen. Ya if Tevin Jenkins falls absolutely you take him but I think he doesn’t make it to 23. Wyatt Davis is going to be a solid starter in this league for a long time and this notion about scheme fits isn’t accurate. There is this little thing called coaching that helps rookies adapt to the pro scheme. Peyton Turner is a good player with a high motor and excellent size. I’d love to have him and Vinny Curry on a rotation. Trey Sermon is a one cut runner. When I saw him run for 300 And it left a big impact on me. I like Robert Hainsey a lot I think he can play anywhere on the line and would start over Lewis and possibly take over for Fant eventually. I think he’s a real sleeper. I’m also high on Aaron Banks also on ND. He’s more a true guard but I’d be happy with either in a late round flyer.
I didn't say take OG at #23 no matter what. In fact, I said that if none of the three top OL who could be there at #23 are gone, then take CB. I believe that Mean Dean who is an OSU fan and has watched Davis for 2-3 years and 3 different scouting services know more about Davis than you. I liked him at one point, and would take him in the 3rd round, but not the 2nd. There are more important aspects to playing DE than having a high motor and excellent size, like speed and talent. Again, only a few fans have Turner ranked so high, and DE is NOT A NEED for the Jets this year. WLB and CB are MUCH more important needs, as is WR, TE and RB.
I think the your draft is well thought out and probably fairly accurate, even the jets picks. But if we take a QB at 2 and a DB at 23 we have learned nothing.
