Mahomes. Needed the year and got it because Andy Reid is a smart dude. Several recent failures, including Darnold and Sanchez, definitely needed the year to adjust and ultimately failed. Not saying they would have made it if they had a seasoned vet to sit behind but the ultimate failings of both were visible in year one and never cleaned up enough to let them survive with us. The guy who performance-wise was a hit was Chad and he got the two years.
Mahomes, the prospect, was considered lucky to crack to top 10 in a weak QB class. Wilson is considered by some the best player in this entire draft that has very deep QB class. You are joking but Mahomes, the prospect, wished to God he was Wilson. Wilson would be his idol.
Listen doesn't matter if it is Wilson, your Fields, Trevor, or Jesus Christ we need to surround the QB with weapons and options. Thats the only way to help a rookie qb, same way Cardinals did it with Murray and Chargers with Herbert
Not so sure on this one. The Ravens flunk QB's when they have too. They just haven't had too recently. Darnold's flaws are real NFL flaws. They're the kind that can be partially coached out but he's the guy who needs to fix his mechanics and you can't coach those out of somebody if they won't put the work in to make the corrections.
That underscores how much the earth has shifted in 4 years regarding how QBs are viewed by the NFL and all the pundits. Out of curiosity, if Watson were in this draft, where would you put him?
Herbert, Lamar, Mahomes, Allen, all got the need a couple year to sit and learn tag. A lot of folks want to pretend that Mahomes wouldn’t have succeeded without sitting but in their quiet honest moments alone they know that’s a lie. I liked Herbert cause I saw him the most but I’d be lying if I told I thought he’d be the best in the class cause. I had no basis for comparison. I never watched Burrow and saw Tua like a couple times. When it doesn’t look like we’re going to draft a QB, I don’t watch as much CFB in recent years. This past year I was watching all the top QBs.
Depends. Was he the starter at Clemson or did Lawrence start? Part of Lawrence's cachet, not a big part but part of it, is that Clemson recently produced a star-caliber NFL QB.
I'm pretty sure. They held onto Flacco past his "sell by date". And with the talent they had and the coaching, I'm certain Darnold would've done MUCH better. Yes, he still would've had his flaws, but they would've been masked more and not as glaring.
cards got pretty lucky BoB was an idiot and they got a top 3 WR for a 2nd rounder and a broke down RB.
I think we all know its going to be Zach Wilson at this point, if we like it or not. For those really trying to angle the Jets fanbase here towards the other QB's, I really suggest you guys check out the Niners message board. They are literally hoping and praying our historical ineptitude leads us to taking anyone other than Wilson. They want Wilson very bad there, and many are on suicide watch over Mac Jones
If we were going with LaFleur and system fit as the major reason to draft any of these guys Mac Jones would probably be the guy. However, like all the other prospects he has big holes in the resume, as in only one year as the full-time starter, coming out as a Junior despite not having a strong resume, questionable NFL body, etc. Bill Parcells would look at this entire draft class and if he couldn't get Trevor Lawrence he would be finding a vet to run things for the year, maybe drafting a Trask in the 3rd if the option was there. He'd be right. Of course. I can't get over the fact that there is one guy in this class worthy of a high pick and somehow that has turned into a stampede to draft Curly, Moe and Larry right after him.
Darnold wasn't winning a Super Bowl in Baltimore. That's why the Ravens held Flacco past his sell by date, which was probably the year they had to let him go or re-up him to a huge deal.
Feels a lot like FOMO The game don't stop until you buy Gamestop, or in the NFL's case...draft a franchise QB
